This is from today's Franklin News-Post. I found it interesting to see FC's schedule for next season (another killer schedule) and the quote from Coach Jones about why people will apply for the job anyway.
Whoever succeeds Chris Jones as FCHS's new sideline boss while inherit a difficult regular-season schedule, one that includes eight teams which qualified for postseason play in 2014.
Next year, the Eagles will play Liberty-Bedford, William Fleming, Pulaski County, Christiansburg, Heritage-Lynchburg, George Washington-Danville, Magna Vista and Halifax County, all of which made the playoffs, and Bassett and Liberty Christian Academy, which did not.
Also, the Eagles will scrimmage Northside, which won the Group 3A state championship in 2013 and reached the third round of postseason play this year.
The schedule has only four home games, including one Piedmont District game. FCHS's first three games are on the road.
Jones said he doesn't think the schedule will be a determent to FCHS in attracting candidates for its opening.
"The schedule is going to be tough,' Jones said. "But the money draws you in (to this job); it's a good-paying job for high school. I think there were 40 applicants when I applied.'
Jones was selected from a field of seven finalists who accepted interviews with FCHS's applicant screening committee when he was hired in 2009. Six of those candidates were head coaches at schools in various classifications at that time.
