At Halfway Point Who Are Your Contenders and Pretenders ( Riverheads Not Included Name 2 Of Each

That’s tough to narrow down to two contenders. And honestly just as hard name two pretenders.
There are some very deceiving win loss records. I would all but guarantee W&L would be undefeated if they were in region D and most likely if they were in region B & C. Two losses so far will most likely prevent them from hosting through out but they are tough as nails and will be hard to put out come money time.

I'll gladly take K&Q as anything. For the last 18 years or so, nobody considered them for anything. Heck, 2 years ago, they didn't even have a team. Either way this group of kids has the community talking and even on boards like this. I'll take that any day. This really is a special group of kids and they've bought into the system and the team concept
Contenders Essex and Galax because they are both smash mouth physical teams and thats what it takes IMO when it gets cold in late Nov early Dec. Pretenders are Rappahanock and Chilhowie because region D is weak and I dont think Rapp can hold up consistently to the teams that play smashmouth football. No disrespect to region D but the results over the last couple years speak for themselves.
Too early for this question maybe but when we get to state semi-finals this year, do we know already that A travels to B, or vice versa, or do they determine that by the point system these days?

K & Q is having a great year well deserved BUT this is not pitty party question, K & Q will not survive the big stage facts man . But hey they should celebrate their success let’s see how they finish
I'm not upset. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I respect yours and it doesn't bother me one bit. I was just saying that the fact that people are even mentioning them is more than years past.
It’s got to start somewhere it’s great story I hope community is behind them just drives them to be even better
Had more fans at our last away game than we had at home games in previous years. It's definitely been the talk of this county, which only has about 7000 residents or so, give or take.
I can tell you a few things about the Royal Tigers that are not pretend.
5-0 is real.
#1 rank in region 1A is real.
Legit shot to be undefeated as they play their last game of the season vs KW is real.

I think Rapp is in danger of being a pretender and falling to #5 and a road playoff game at who ever the 3rd best team in the NND is at the time.
One day and one game at a time. Nobody will be taken lightly. All that matters right now is going 1-0 this week.
With that Vanilla schedule they should be at least 9 -1. That schedule makes for a great regular season but has no Value come playoff time, I’m watching closely to see if Charles City can pull the upset.
Who would even expect a team that barely has 9 wins in the last 10 years to even remotely come close to being 9-1. You say it's a vanilla schedule, but nobody expected KQ to be 5-0 to begin with. I will say that the Portsmouth Christian team that they own a victory over is just as good as almost any team in Region A with a rb who will probably finish with around 1700 yards. Nobody expected KQ to beat them, but they did and they did it in the clutch too. Nobody has said that KQ is a state contender or even a region contender. But they do have offensive weapons all over the field and you can't key on just one guy. They could very well lose tonight to Mathews, who knows. They will have to stay focused every game and not let up. But they've changed the mindset of the program from hoping to win to expecting to win. This group of seniors on the team had only 2 career victories coming into this season, but they stayed the course and stuck with the program and their leadership along with the play of some very talented freshmen (KQ starts 4 freshmen on offense and defense) has helped pave the way. So yes their schedule might be "vanilla " compared to some teams but they have faced adversity from all of the losing from past years and win or lose, they will come to play and leave it all on the field. Good luck to your Tigers tonight as well. Definitely no hard feelings on my part. I'm just very passionate about this group of kids, this school, and this community. It's been home my entire life and this is the most buzz that any team has generated in nearly 30 years and we as coaches, players, parents, fans, alumni and the community as a whole are enjoying the ride and the excitement and passion that high school football has brought to our little school and county this season.

Great story , I’m happy for the team and that community but let’s be real here and stop selling false hope if KQ wins out and go 9 -1 , any seeded program would love to play them in playoffs. I’m a realist. Stop trying to make it seem as if I’m bashing them ! I want K & Q to succeed , it’s refreshing to have dialogue on this board about a somebody else, also I would like to see K&Q and Charles City game highlighted up here as game of the week , kids need to know people are taking notice of there accomplishments . Well you definitely comment about these Tigers more than you do your own Tigers, lol, so maybe you do have something against them. There is still 5 more games to be played before the playoffs even begin. Nobody around here is talking about 10-0 or 9-1 or none of that or false hope, or whatever you're referring to. Heck, they might finish 5-5 for all anyone knows. But when the playoffs come around, they will be in them for the first time in 19 years and will line up and play whomever. In the end, only one team is going to win each Region and only one team is going to be the state champion. If KQ doesn't win another game the rest of the season, those kids are still winners in my book.
Why are you saying I’m against K&Q for stating the obvious ? Vanilla schedule that’s the truth. I have something against everybody if it’s against THE SUSSEX TIGERS. I hope every member on this board feels that way about there respected programs. Ask Riverheads people about me LOL. I visited there school just to take in the environment on a weekday. I don’t like them but I respect there body of work and have admiration for there fan base , I would love for the Tigers to end there dynasty soon I hope.
I just don't understand why you say a team that had only won 9 games in the last 10 years is playing a vanilla schedule or why you even care. Would you feel better if they scheduled all 3A or 4A schools and be 0-5, just so you could say they play a tough schedule? Lol. They already own wins over 3 teams that defeated them last year. They are just playing who is on their schedule and like I said, that Portsmouth Christian team that they beat is just as good as most of the teams in Region A and will probably be the second best team that they will play in the regular season behind King William. I don't sleep much anyway, but I'm usually up even earlier on game day and it'll probably be 2 or 3am tonight before I finally get to bed.
Maybe I read this wrong the first time but I thought it was to list the ones we thought had legit state title intentions and where we see them at. I don't every mean to take away from the effort and commitment of these young men playing. The two teams I listed as pretenders are good football teams. I just do not believe they will get quite as far as othesr may have them going. I do like to jab at the fans from time to time but it is all in good fun. Good topic by the way to get some discussion going.

I can remember Riverheads finding the weakest team we could find so we could win a homecoming game. The first you got to do is get the kids believing they can win this breeds confidence wouldn’t surprise K & Q beats a couple teams maybe on paper they shouldn’t because of confidents this is how you build a program up great job by the coaching staff and the AD to put kids in a position to be successful
@Raider_Man, I had to go back through to see that there were several that picked Rapp as pretenders. I wouldn't dismiss them quite that quickly since they would be a proven quantity should they advance out of Region A. That in itself is a tall order.
If they advance out of region a then they wouldn’t be considered a pretender any longer They would be contender
That's kind of my point. In my mind right now its a three team race there. Rapp, Essex and W&L in no particular order. I do not think any other team can run that gauntlet from region A regardless of how good a record they may have now or at seasons end. There is probably only one other team that considers themselves to be legit contenders and that Northumberland. K&Q are enjoying their resurgence and should ride that train for all its worth. West Point has several things to get right before they are there. Colonial Beach is a good team but will most likely not challenge the top 3 teams from that region. Just my take on region A from 3 hours away.
In my opinion W&L and Essex are the teams to beat and will challenge each other for the Region Championship. K&Q is having an amazing story over there, much respect to them. Rapp will keep improving and will challenge any contender in region A and has a chance to come out with the championship. West Point needs to get all people back healthy and straighten a few things out to become a possibility. CB will always be a hard fought game for most but I’d say they are the weaker link of the NND. That’s my take it on Region A.
K&Q's first real test in the public school football world will take place next Saturday afternoon against West Point. That should be the measuring stick game for the Royal Tigers. K&Q is doing the right thing to build interest in the program. the coaching staff is obviously doing something well with the kids they have out. Don't forget there's no JV team at K&Q this year. I'm expecting an really big crowd for next Saturday's homecoming game vs. WP
I fill line rapp has not lived up to the preseason hype they have not proved to me to be a contender, they very well may be but up this point they have not proven it
I’m not gonna write NHS off after 1 loss to a tough 2a. There’s a lot of weapons on that squad. Let’s see what happens tonight against Essex.
