GW at Reidsville

Looks like the Eagles announced on their Fb page that they will open the season at powerhouse Reidsville on Aug 29th. Coach Morrison then added that he wishes he could get Reidsville on the schedule for basketball too. Always thought the 2 should get together more often.

I don't remember GW playing the Lions in the regular season in basketball. Maybe in the holiday tourneys. They were in our Jr Hi conference. Would be a good gate esp with the new gym.

Should be a good battle between 2 good programs. Reidsville lost quite a bit from last years team however tradition never graduates. Neal is dangerous at quarterback. GW is expecting to be good again this year and is always in the conversation. Very big in the trenches and return 9 starters on defense and 7-8 on offense. Looking forward to this one.

Yea GW has a tough non District schedule this year
Reidsville
Glass
Amherst
Lord Botetourt
Fleming

Eagles should be battle tested and scrimmages with Heritage and Gretna

Last time I saw a Reidsville team play they brought their JV team and played at GW 5 or 6 years ago. Starting jvqb for GW got hurt early in the game but not sure it would have mattered. You could tell the Reidsville kids were all around more polished football players. And it wasn't related to GW coaching, it was just evident that the Reidsville players had more experience and had been exposed to better coaching throughout their youth. They weren't very big but were hard nosed, flew to the football and played disciplined. Similar to a Dinwiddie or Salem. Can't wait for this game.

Reidsville is very comparable to Phoebus, Dinwiddie and Salem. Well coached, very good youth league program, and those kids play together from kindergarten to 12th grade. Definitely an opponent to help GW get over the hump in the playoffs.

Nothing but respect for the rams however it definitely would have mattered. That GW JV team was undefeated at the time and typically when you lose a QB at the JV level the ability to pass and do the things you normally do go out of the window with the backup. They had to move the starting RB to QB and then he got hurt as well. Reidsville will have their hands full with GW in the fall.

Respect for the Rams and they did have a good team. However the QB (Jeb Brynes if I'm not mistaken) getting hurt definitely made a huge difference. GW JV's were undefeated at that time I believe and when the QB got hurt they had to move their starting RB to QB and then he broke his wrist a few plays later. Having a 3rd string QB in JV football is not ideal lol and does not allow you to do much. Look forward to the 2 of them battling this fall. Definitely agree that the youth program in Reidsville is much better as well.
