Sorry about not posting this in the March SWVA thread, but I thought with a score like this, it deserved its own thread...

(brief from the Bristol Herald Courier)

The wildest high school baseball game of the 2019 season played in these parts probably took place in Smyth County on Wednesday.

The Grayson County Blue Devils posted a 32-13 win over the homestanding Marion Scarlet Hurricanes in a game that featured a combined 45 runs, 44 hits and 16 errors.

Grayson County exploded for 17 runs in the top of the seventh inning, turning a 15-9 advantage into a 32-9 lead. Marion responded with four runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Shawn Campbell had five hits and five RBIs for Grayson County, while Andrew Shaffner contributed four hits and five RBIs to the onslaught.

Cooper Archer (two hits, four RBIs) led Marion, while Justin Olinger and Tyler Pennington each finished with two hits and two RBIs.

It was the second eventful game the two schools have played this season. On March 11, Grayson County posted a 12-5 win over Marion in a game that was shortened to five innings due to darkness. The Blue Devils led 7-5 after the first inning in that one.
