Can you believe it as we are half way through the regular season! The district has one marquis team and the rest with the exception of chancellor is about average at best. very weak district this year! lets see how I line them up this week!
# 1 EASTERN VIEW 5 @ 0 It takes no Einstein to see this pick as the cyclones have not been tested this year so far! They have beaten all their 5 opponents by the 35 points rule causing a running clock in the second half! Do I need to say any more!

# 2 JM 2 @ 3 The jackets seem to be getting cranked up with two wins in a row but they still have a long way to go! Just a matter of time before Serbay got his team going in the right direction! Still has a long way to go to be competitive with the View!

# 3 KING GEORGE 1 @ 4 I have moved the foxes up this week as they handed the cavaliers pretty well. I have seen the foxes twice this year and I believe they was the victim of a tough schedule! Many numbers to pick from and a NFL size line and talent that coach Smith will develop! Still no match for Eastern View!

# 4 COURTLAND 0 @ 4 When is the last time a Courtland team was a victim of the 35 point running clock? You would think it would have been the inaugural season of the cougars in 1980 as the team had only under class players but that rule was not in place back then and the cougars went 3 @ 7. I'm sure other than Friday night against E V it had never happened! they also had a tough schedule and I still believe they will do well in the district starting with Chancellor this week! Hold on cougar fans you just may see them go undefeated the rest of the district!

# 5 a tie Spotsy and Caroline!
# 5 Spotsy 3 @ 1
Way to go boys of post oak as you hung on and beat Culpeper ! Getting better every week but will run into a buzz saw this week as they play Eastern View! If spotsy had hired Jeromy Jack 5 years ago when the job came open this program would not had suffered like it has all these years. Knight nation has a different attitude than the losing past and I hope Friday night against one of the best team in the state will stop their momentum! Before the season started I predicted they would win three games this year and now they have done that with 5 more to go. Great season guys so far and as I figured coach has done much with so little talent. Guess what? The JV team is undefeated so things are looking up at down town post oak!

# 5 Caroline 2 @ 3
Caroline got handed their third loss of the season against KG. The cavaliers are still having a good year and like Spotsy are finally moving in the right direction. That game in a couple weeks against Spotsy will be an important game in Caroline's program!

# 7 CHANCELLOR 0 @ 5 Chancellor still looks like a team searching for anything positive! Coach Glessner is still positive but you wonder how much longer he can motivate his troops! Graduation and transfers have decimated this team and coach Glessner has his hands tied with very little talent! He needs not to look at the record he needs to see if his team shows improvement or cashes in the season. I hope the kids don't quit on him as he deserves better in his first season! Good luck to a nice guy and I hope he can turn things around in a couple years!

There they are my fearless picks! Are you ready for the playoffs ? Be here in a short time. I look for EV to represent the Battlefield well in its inaugural season and hope the rest of the district will improve and do well also! Get out and watch your favorite team as the season is half over!

Good job as usual Skynard1. Just a really down year in the Battlefield. I am not a constant observer of the district, but we played JM, Courtland, and Caroline in the past two years. Many of the top teams have ben hit hard by graduation in the past two years and just have not been able to bounce back. Surprisingly this is happening throughout the State of Virginia In the Metro Richmond area schools are continuously being built which has weakened some perennial powers. In some of the smaller rural areas admissions are down, kids have way more sports to choose from and of course you have parental fear regarding concussion syndrome. I am not sure what the real reason for the decline.

Eastern View, is a very good football team and should finish the season unbeaten. Once the playoffs start EV will have their hands full as Class 4, region b could very well have four undefeated teams and seeding will be of a premium.

Courtland's struggle is concerning, but understandable (same with Chancellor) as they lost a ton two years ago and the expected maturity of their young players has not translated to wins. Yes, they have played some good teams so far this season; however, when they played Dinwiddie last year I thought their offense was dated, slow, and easy to defend. I am not questioning Coach Hall at all he is a proven winner. I just think his offensive scheme does not match the talent/skills his players have.

For you and the rest of the Battlefield District fans I truly hope things get better. They have been putting a good product on the field for years, so keep supporting them and the kids deserve it.

You made some valid points Navy! so much for the kids to do these days unlike my playing days when sports was all young uns had to do! The point you made about Courtland may be valid but some area hall of fame coaches Ken Brown, Tim Coleman and JC Hall may disagree with you! There are some so call football experts I have heard them say the same as you. Did the Stafford Courtland game for CVTV this year and the cougars looked exactly like you said against Dinwiddie! Very bland and basic offense and might need to be spiced up a little but the Cougars faced a tough schedule to start and the teams they played make your offense look that way. I still think the cougars will do well in the district play and JM may be their only true test in the district! KG will be no push over with Spotsy and Caroline being trouble for them if they don't play a clean error free game! May just be a down year in the district! Keep up the good work and I enjoyed your post!

Always respect your honesty and candor. Please dont think I am disrespecting Courtland or criticizing Coach Hall. His system is proven and tested; however, I saw some good Cougar athletes last year. I really like to break down an opponent and after watching the game film I felt some players abilities were not being utilized effectively. The plays Courtland ran took way too long to develop against our quick defense. I believe they had negative yards in the first half, were very predictable and when forced into long yardage situations they sent one receiver out chucking it against a double team. This just will not work against a good team and I think its biting them in the butt.

Some of my observations may be unfair and could actually be disappointment as we had heard so much about the Cougars Program past/present. Maybe Dinwiddie fans or me in particular fell prey to the hype some prep posters were throwing out. The kids fought hard and it was easy to see potential, so logically I had questions.

Good luck to the Cougars. I promise I am not a hater. I just like to see sound football. If Coach Mills was running the spread and did not have the players to execute it I would say the same thing.

Keep up the good work Skynard1. Your post are always a good read. Especially when you get fired up over the boys from post oak.
