Pretty much the same old same old in the district after week 4. Chancellor rebounded and showed they have the best talent in the district. KG lost to a good Louisa team and Courtland won their first game and JM continues to improve! lets see how IMO they stand this week!
# 1 CHANCELLOR: The Chargers proved how good a team they can be by beating a average Liberty team. It was a good rebound after the OT loss to Eastern View and it shows you what a talented team with tremendous receivers and one of the best QB's in the state! Where was this QB and receivers last week? Will the Chargers now go on and run the table in the district with all that talent or will they stump their toe like they did at EV and be beat again? Yes EV is a good playoff team but the Chargers have got to realize to win a state title they have to take care of business and beat less talented teams in the playoffs not like the other talented teams they had that lost in the playoffs with players like Dominic Wallace etc. Is their defense good enough to produce a state title or will the team falter like they have in the past? Only time will tell!
# 2 KG : Don't feel bad Foxes you took it on the chin from a very good Louisa team Friday night but a lot of good teams will enter the Lions den and leave disappointed. They should rebound this week against a not very good IC Norcum team they beat handly last year. One concern for the KG team was the loss of their QB Deon Williams in the second half of the Louisa game! Williams was doing a good job directing the KG offense and hope he will be able to return! Yes the foxes lost Friday night but this is still a good football team than can beat Chancellor if the Chargers take them lightly and let their guard down!
# 3 JM : Made the statement after I saw the Jackets scrimmage MV that even though they are not as talented as the past JM teams but will improve and it looks like they are doing so. They beat a much better Petersburg team Friday night. They seem to have settled on sophomore QB Zack Davis! A tall slender QB with a strong arm is not very mobile. He doesn't fit the past JM qb's in their spread offense but has done a good job so far. Their defense seems to be getting better each week and I would not count them out to be in the playoffs. Serbay is a great coach with a good veteran staff and I knew they wasn't as bad as they looked against Dinwiddie. Got a pretty good read on the Jackets as I watch them on JM TV each week! Cant see them beating Chancellor but have a slight chance to beat KG and the rest of the field for sure!
# 4 COURTLAND: The Cougars got their first win last week against a mediocre Fauquier team. Cougars needed that win to boost their confidence and JC will have this team competitive by seasons end. They will have a rough time with KG and Chancellor but their pretty good defense will keep them in the JM game but with the jackets improving it will be hard for them to win. Their concern is their inept offense as they graduated all their skilled people and their Qb transferred out.
# 5 CAROLINE: Really thought the Cavaliers had a shot of ending their terrible 23 game losing streak against a 0 and 3 Thomas Jefferson team but they just couldn't get er done! Feel sorry for that team and Antron Yeates. They seem not to be able to get a break.over the last 12 years with many coaching changes and transfers out have really set them back. Looks like their only chance to break the streak and get his first win is against Spotsy and a slight chance against King William after their bye week this week. Hang in their Caroline and stick by Yeates as he is a good coach and needs your support.
#6 SPOTSY: I had been thinking about putting my boys from post oak in front of Caroline but I feel the Cavaliers has just a little more talent and definite speed than Spotsy! Spotsy has a defense that simply cant tackle and their offense has no speed or size! I really see no improvement as they have hardly any talent as the hazing problem cost them with players transferring or not playing at all! those players was their core of talent back this year in a team that had very little to begin with. Hang in their Spotsy as better days are in front of you! Still have a shot at W@L and a good chance at Caroline!
There you go completing 4 weeks and off to district play after the off week with KG the only district team playing this week. Season is flying by so get out and support the greatest sport going HS football! They don't play for the money and after their HS careers very few get scholarships or less going to the pro's. Most play for the fun and sprit for their school!
