Glass playing good ball

So I was listening on the radio tonight to the Handley vs Spring Mills, WV varsity boys basketball game tonight. The broadcasters gave some information about the 4D boys playoffs. So apparently Sherando will travel to James Wood on Friday to play in a play in game. Handley will get the winner of Sherando/James Wood on Monday night. Charlottesville will travel to Millbrook on Monday night. Mecklenburg will apparently play Halifax County in a play in game and EC Glass will play the winner of that game. They didn’t mention on the radio who GW Danville will get but I looked on MaxPreps and it has Salem traveling to GW on Monday night. I might make the short trip down to Danville from Lynchburg on Monday night to watch the Salem boys play GW.

As far as my thoughts on Handley/Spring Mills, WV this evening. Great game. Spring Mills won 64-60 in overtime handing Handley their first loss of the season. This game could have gone either way. Two great teams going at it. Sophomore Will Braun-Duin for the Judges is a stud. He is the real deal. The Judges will be a tough out in the 4D playoffs. I remember going to the Handley basketball games last season when I lived in Winchester and watching Braun-Duin flat out ball in his freshman season. I knew the kid was something special.

He's already over 1000 points as a sophomore and a few weeks ago he scored 51 points and only played 17 minutes of game action. Absurd numbers

Anyone know if Glass and Salem have played this year? Maxpreps has Glass beating Salem twice but it's in as the Salem HS in Virginia Beach and not the Spartans. I assumed that both of those games were actually against our Salem but Maxpreps is not the most trustworthy, of course.

If they have already played and Glass did indeed win twice, I'd expect a tight game in a potential round 3 to get into the state tournament. Really hard to beat a good team three times and Salem is a very solid basketball squad.

Glass actually played Salem VA Beach. Travelled there for the first game, and hosted them two weeks ago.

GW and Salem would both give Glass a game no doubt about it.

Wow, that's awesome scheduling for both teams...literally across the state. It's funny how I immediately assumed that Maxpreps was wrong...I was like "no way they played Salem VB, that's gotta be the much closer Salem, right?"

Makes this region even more intriguing. I will still go with my pick of Glass and Handley in the 4D ship.

You have to have a certain capacity in order to host regional games. GW’s gym isn’t complete so I’m assuming that’s why it’s being played at Averett. Would be nice if this region’s semi’s and final was played in Charlottesville.

Thanks for the info man. I’ve never been to Averett University. Is the basketball gym there fairly easy to find?

Get there early, parking fills up quickly. Fairly easy to get to. Just beyond the Wal-Mart if you're coming from riverside dr. It's a nice gym. Will be a good one. I think Salem has the players to make a little run in the region. Aside from the Northside losses, they were able to avenge both PH and Glenvar down the stretch. Foxx, Boles, and Brown will give GW all they can handle. Also, it will be interesting to see which GW shows up. Played better the last few games after that loss to Northside, but I think the competition Salem faced will have them very prepared.

District2, I don't know what type of deal VHSL has with Maxpreps but you all should talk to them and see if you all can become the go to guys for postseason basketball. It's awful they don't have brackets up yet. VHSL should give it to someone who actually cares about Virginia High School sports. Maybe make a joint pitch with Matthew Hatfield and Bob Alvis.

So true. I keep checking and nothing. Fortunately several teams have tagged us on X/Twitter. I believe I've seen/retweeted the 4D, 3C, and 3D brackets. Still waiting on more. I'll try to add them here.

Salem vs Danville will be a good game. Kam Brown and Mari Fox will give GW fits. GW lost a lot when their 6th man LJ Warren left for Hargrave a few weeks back. He was instant offense and a huge energy spark. GW has played very blah. Salem is a very impressive looking ball team.

Just want to point out a few facts over the past few games since GW lost to Northside they have changed up a few things they are looking better since. I have not seen Salem play this year but I do know that GW has not lost a game in Danville this year. Losing LJ was huge. This game will be good for both teams let’s see what happens.
