The participants at the 3rd annual Best of the 757 Baseball Event had to battle cloudy skies and drizzling rain at Harbor Park in Norfolk to see who would receive the best NIKE SPARQ (Speed, Power, Agility, Reaction, and Quickness) rating.

The tests measure the athletic ability of each participant and it consist of four events including the 60-yard dash, powerball toss, 5-10-5 shuttle, and vertical jump. The 50+ athletes put up good scores despite the damp field conditions. The players were divided into groups alternating between the four measured events (the 30-yard dash and the 60-yard dash were measured during the same run).

In the vertical jump, Lake Taylor junior Justin Erby took home top honors with a leap of 31.6 breaking the 31.4 from Dane Smith in the inaugural best of the 757 Baseball event. Of course, have a great vertical helps Justin who plays shortstop for the Titans.

In the Power Ball toss, Taylor Erby threw the 10-pound ball the farthest with a heave of 45 inches. Taylor was an iron man on the mound for Lake Taylor during his sophomore season.

A player from the Eastern District also won the 60-yard dash as Churchland's Devin Walker sprinted to a 6.88 time. Walker played JV for the Truckers last season.

The first half of the 60-yard dash was won by Kings Fork third baseman Daniel Gromkowski who covered the 30 yards in 3.09. Finally, the 5-10-5 shuttle (aka agility) was won by Hickory sophomore Stephen Berczek with a time of 4.51 seconds.
