All the recent rain has probably been a nightmare for ADs and coaches around the state. In the Shenandoah, the teams are scrambling and using every available play date to finish the district schedule before conference playoffs begin.

Friday night allowed six of the eight teams to get in a game as East Rock nipped Wilson 6-4 and Stuarts Draft topped Luray 8-3. But the biggest upset of the day came out at Buffalo Gap where the bottom-feeding Bison stunned league-leading Page 8-4.

Although the district race is not as important as it used to be due to the conference set-up, you can still bet that the teams keep up with it and everyone would like to be "district champs." With that loss, Page is now 9-3 with two games left. Riverheads and red-hot Stuarts Draft are nipping at the Panther heels with 4 losses. However, something will have to give as those two play each Tuesday before the Gladiators wrap up at Page Wednesday. East Rock and Luray are each hanging around with five losses if the top three should all go into a tailspin.

The weather forecast is not looking good so I doubt if the entire season will get finished and some games will probably be canceled altogether. Whatever happens, I think the eight teams then splinter off into at least three different conferences for their playoffs

On a side note, congrats to Page County's Seth Comer for being named the WHSV Student Athlete of the Year at last night's banquet.

There is an 8th grader on Pages JV team who I think you will be hearing a lot from over the next few years...last name of Gordon. Saw him play twice...quit talented.

I assume you're referring to Tristen Gordon, little bro to Kate Gordon who is a JMU softball commit and reigning 2-time Sheanandoah POY and reigning 2-time VHSL Player of the Year. The kid is in the 8th grade and is a really good size. He also plays football and basketball. Moves really well for a big man. Hoping he grows a few more inches and continues to hit the weights. Kid has a bright future. His father is the coach, Buck Gordon, who went to Bridgewater and played in the Cubs minor league system.
