The Skyhawks have allowed 73 yards rushing this season.

No, they are not giving up an average of 73 yards rushing. They have given up 73 rushing yards total in 8 games.

They have allowed 347 passing yards.

They allow 54 yards per game.

They have allowed 19 points total. Only 13 of those given up by defense. Only 6 of those given up by first defense.

Awesome!

Their defense IS good! I don't think they are "head and shoulders" ahead of Highland Springs or Hermitage though.
Highland Springs has 4 shutouts (playing the toughest schedule of all of them)
Hermitage has only 2 shutouts (on a soft schedule too), but they have a real good defense too.

Without a doubt, the playoffs in D5 South will be very exciting!
Can't leave out Douglas Freeman (7-0) (Soft schedule!) Most likely, Freeman and Bird will square off in the second round with HSHS and Herm.
We may even have a matchup between Freeman and Lee-Davis in the 1st round!! The War Between The Confederate Battle Flags!

I don't think so either. Right now I actually think the Springers are playing the best football on both sides of the ball. I posted this because I thought it was a pretty amazing statistic, though. Obviously, they will start to give up yards when they hit the playoffs.

That's good in 2012 we didn't allow teams to get into positive rushing for the season until we played Stone Bridge for the state title. So the question I have for you is Bird that good or is the Dominion District that bad. Or maybe it is a combination of both

I think Meadowbrook will be a scary draw if Bird draws them (or anyone else draws them in the first round). They are starting to come together.

I think Bird's defense is really good, but the Dominion District is way down this year. Bird's offensive line is probably not what it's been the past few years.

Lake Taylor did give up 106 points in the regular season in 2012; I assume no rushing touchdowns.

Naw we gave up 3. But we stopped so many teams for losses on plays that we held them to negative yards rushing. Bird has a stout defense and always has, so these numbers are not surprising and add in how down the Dominion District is and it is a perfect storm for some great numbers. Will the Dominion being down hurt Bird against Hermitage and Highland Springs?? I say no I like Bird to 4-peat.

Here's the most impressive defenses in VHSL history, by the way:

Springers have the best offensive line that they have had in many, many years. This just might be the best offense ever at HSHS!! Can anyone stop them cold? We will see.
