After scoring 43 points tonight, @McclungMac is 154 points away from tying Allen Iverson's VHSL record of 948 points in a season. For his career, McClung has scored 2,506 points. That currently ranks 5th all-time in VHSL history. He's 264 points shy of the all-time career record

In addition, Mac McClung passed Ralph Sampson on the single season scoring list in VA tonight

How many games will Gate City have left on the season, assuming they play in/make it to the state title game?

He will break Iverson's single season record, but he isn't touching the VHSL career scoring record in 4 games, if he needs 264 points. No question, he's going to get the single season scoring record, but how many games will he have left to play on the season if they reach the title? It will be interesting to see if he has enough games left to get the all time VHSL scoring record.

Sorry didn’t see there was a thread already about this

Nobody said he was better than Iverson.

there is a big difference scoring 900 points in triple a va beach and scoring 900 points in single a southwest va

900+ points in 28-30 games is pretty impressive whether it's in "single a southwest Virginia", Virginia Beach, Upward basketball or the local church league.

If your gonna try to be an a**hat....please get it right. This is 2A basketball ....not Single A. McClung is living rent free in alot of yalls minds. Its hilarous really. McClung has proven it doesnt matter what class hes playing in.....Fern Creek couldn't stop him, Cleveland TN couldn't stop him, Lakota East couldnt stop him, and lastly North Mecklenburg couldnt stop him either. What on earth makes anyone think 3A public school ball teams are going to make that much of a difference? Come on people.

shark i never said anybody could stop him, he is a great scorer, the big picture you missing is, in southwest va teams and playes are not that good, if you watch his games, on D he spends the majority of his time snowbirding and puts out 0 effort on that part of his game, in triple aaa he would have to play D and then you get foul trouble concerns, being tired, injuries, so forth, this opens up a lot of possibilities that he is being protected from by his coach here in good old single a southwest va, you can count on one hand here the real double aa schools in southwest va and GC isnt one of them, isn't that why they dropped down to single a about 15 years ago

9fter, you make some good points. I think it's a lil unfair about the SWVa 2A teams comment. There are good teams out there, GC, Union, Graham and Grayson Co. We all know the traditional powerhouse areas of basketball is the Richmond area, the 757 and Northern Va.
When the playoffs start, we'll see the teams that are real.
This Bulldawg will always bark 4 his team.

VA high school sports run from 1A - 6A these days.

get your facts correct...AA...and has posted his stats against top 5 teams in NC, TN, and KY.

You sound like a preposterous nitwit whose team got shown what's what by the Devils. Whoever you root for, I am sure they'll be done by the end of next week. :)

Between-the-legs dunk by McClung highlights Gate City win

The 43-point performance on Tuesday night was ho-hum for Gate City High School’s Mac McClung.

The between-the-legs dunk he had on a fastbreak in the second half was something new for Southwest Virginia’s top boys basketball prospect.

McClung soared and scored again as Gate City rolled to a 90-67 win over Ridgeview in the penultimate game of the 2017-18 regular-season for the Blue Devils.

The jam, similar to former NBA superstar Isaiah “J.R.” Rider’s “East Bay Funk Dunk,” went vi-ral shortly after it occurred and the Twitter accounts of Sports Illustrated and Bleacher Report had already shared it.

McClung also continued his assault on the VHSL record book and could hold the state’s sin-gle-season and career scoring record by the completion of the campaign.

Ridgeview actually led 20-15 after the first quarter, but Gate City erupted for 34-second quarter points in turning the game into a blowout.

Zac Ervin added 25 points for the Blue Devils. Ridgeview was led by 17 points from Derrick Yates.

my point is this, in the first game of the arby's he played a very good team, that team could not contain him either, but he had to play D and other parts of the game that he gets shielded from in the mountain 7 conference, by the middle of the 3 quarter in that arbys game he was sucking air and wore out from having to play so hard to keep GC in that game, just saying a full 4 season of that and lets see where he stands

Trust me 9fter, I feel where you coming from. He'll see a difference in talent when the playoffs start. I'm sure he will get his but he will have to play both ends of the court as you stated. The Arby's Classic is a good experience but the Va playoffs are what's real.

Mac McClung was on ESPN ( Highly Questionable ) today.
