I was all prepared to share some scores and stories after the 11:00 news, but WOW! pizzzzza has been working overtime tonight! Great job in all classifications.
As for my viewing, I started out being the dutiful Gladiator fan I am by watching our girls since our boys don't play until tomorrow night. But when the girls built a 22-3 lead in the first quarter, I decided they would not need my help so I tuned in some of the Shenandoah boys games. I have since learned that the RHS girls beat Altavista 52-7. Ouch! They now play for the Region B title Wednesday night at home with a berth to the state tournament at stake.
The first boys game I checked on was the Stuarts Draft at Staunton game, since it had a 6:30 start. The Storm was ahead 37-20 after three quarters so I passed on that one.
I then discovered that the Buffalo Gap, Fort Defiance and Wilson games were all supposed to be running along at pretty close to the same time, although something funky happened with Wilson, which I will get to in a minute.
Anyway, the Bison game was running ahead of the other two so I saw more of it. When I tuned in, they were ahead 24-18 at the break. Strasburg then got off to a good third quarter start and closed to within 26-25. But a Bison three and another basket put them ahead 31-25. At that point I switched to another game.
When I came back to the Gap game, there were about three minutes left and Strasburg hit a bucket to go ahead 40-39. However instead of folding to homecourt pressure, the visiting Bison immediately grabbed the lead back and in fact stretched it out to 47-40 before winning 49-43. They now have the dubious distinction of traveling to East Rock tomorrow.
The Fort/Fluvanna game was somewhat of a surprise but mainly due to the margin of victory for the Flucos. I did not watch as much of this one but when I left it early in the third, the Indians were still within striking distance. But by the time I came back, Fluvanna was ahead 61-38 and coasted from there. I don't know what they did to build such a commanding lead, especially playing on the road, but from the limited amount that I watched it just looked like an overall difference in team speed.
Now about the Wilson at Spotswood game.......that one was running behind the other two because it was the second game of a doubleheader, so the NFHS screen first said that it was delayed. I took that to mean that the girls game took longer to play and therefore the boys game would start later than its 7 or 7:15 estimate.
But when I tuned back in about 8:20, after BG and FD had finished their games, the site gave no mention whatsoever of the Wilson/Spotswood game. It was not even listed as an option even though it clearly should have still been in progress. So does anyone know what happened to that stream?
