BOYS /GIRLS - Strong showing for M7 in Region D

Three of the four teams (Gate City, Central Wise and Union) win - 4th team - John Battle - loses in OT @ Graham on late basket.

Zac Ervin back in the lineup for Gate City - other players picked up the scoring the past few games without Zac in the lineup - could've been a blessing in disguise in the long run - Ervin still needs to get his legs back first.

A strong showing for the M7 except GC. Even without Ervin, GC should have had more separation from Lebanon after three quarters. Add Ervin and even with his first game back, they should have had more separation than what they had with Lebanon. Hats off to Lebanon and John Battle for playing good games, but the disappointments out that way tonight we're actually the two favorites in the region with Gate City and Graham. I think both will recover and play each other in the region D finals.

It's got to be taken into consideration.....that GC team had developed some chemistry of how to play without Zac. Zac started the game while Bradley sat on the bench the first 4-5 minutes for disciplinary reasons and it threw everything off and they never got into a rhythm the whole night. I honestly think if Bradley had started and Zac had only played a few mins here and there GC would have had a much more convincing win tonight. But its better in the long run to get Zac back into the swing of things. Cause without him they definitely wont be going far. Hats off to Lebanon though..... Almost everything they put up went in tonight and they battled hard.

But i agree .....that without question should have been in my opinion a 30+ pt spread. That might have been the worst game I've seen GC play in the past 4 or 5 years. GC plays that way again and they will be sitting at home.

I think with Ervin back that Gate City and Radford are the favorites to win it all. Now...East Rock, Graham, Martinsville and maybe a surprise team could take it all. I just don't see two teams as well tuned as Gate City and Radford. Gate City will come ready to go in their semifinal. You had Ervin just coming back from injury and the chemistry had to be adjusted. Gate City was good when Ervin was out...now they are full strength.

This actually could be changed to UVa-Wise. It is in discussion anyway. I think they are waiting to see what happens at Graham tomorrow night in the boys first.

If Union were to upset Graham (which I don't believe happens but is possible, Graham struggled with Battle and Union seems to be hitting their stride), I can't see them not moving both games to Wise.
