Hopefully this will undergo a major shakeup before playoffs. I do not want to see any rematches from regular season.

Richlands was very unimpressive against Bluefield last night. Union and Graham head and shoulders above the rest of region D in my opinion.

Probably going to be re-matches as 6 of the 8 from region c look like they're going to come from 2 districts

Probably out getting an early start on recruiting for next year lol
I cant say but so much. I was the only Appo fan on here for a few years and I guess that why i felt my back was against the wall with many of yall back in 2015. now there are several Appo fans up in here. Im sure they will dwindle away when we start losing again. I guess that is how this message board thing goes. I havent read a post from Ryan all season.

Lot of fair weather fans on message boards. Just as there are a lot in the bleachers on Friday nights.

I'm stil here. Nice to see your stil hanging with us.

Gretna Wil get a 1 by appo if William Campbell does not give them a 1 this week.

8-24. I did not realize it was that "good".

Real test comes Friday night at Naruna. But the way WC struggled with Parry McClure, makes one wonder.

Marion won’t go 10-0

True, but for the sake of argument, I think Union still outpoints them if they both win out. I haven't crunched numbers on it, but I feel like Union has played the tougher schedule.

I don't think Marion will go 10-0 either, but, for the sake of argument, I ran the numbers for the rest of the year based on a 10-0 Marion, "probable" outcomes for the othe games, and the final points would be close. Very close.

Considering union gets 4a points for Morristown and 3a for abingdon, and only plays one 1A school (JIB) I figured they'd outpoint Marion who plays three 1a's. Is burton's poor record going to hurt union that bad?

If Union and Marion wins out doesn't Union finish ahead of Marion by beating AAA Abingdon

Both Union and Marion will get 2A equivalent points for those 1A schools.

What's killing Union right now is Burton, Letcher, Richlands, GC, and MW only have 4 wins combined. By the end of the season the points will even out, but it is entirely possible that both Union and Marion could finish with around 266 points. Obviously, a game here or there will make the difference.

I will be VERY surprised, however, if Marion beats Graham, Va High, AND Richlands

W.C. was lucky to get past McCluer. McCluer led whole ballgame until WC went for two to go up 22-21. McCluer then drove the ball all the way down the field to red zone and came up half yard short on fourth down. WC then scored on next play with little time left. Half yard more and don't know if WC wins that game as McCluer was moving ball good. McCluer's only win was against Nelson by 13, even losing big to James River after they lost to Chatham on record setting night.

Most people still don't realize how jacked up this points system has become. You're rewarded just as much for playing down as you are for playing up regardless of whether it's a district game or not. I understand schools like Marion are a little hamstrung because of geography, but they obviously play the type of schedule that benefits them points-wise. Kudos to them

Schools should be rewarded for playing up, penalized for playing down,

should have left points alone when they realigned

some want their cupcakes and eat them to.

Not to seem like I am completely taking up for Marion but 2 of the 3 single A teams they play are very good and could beat some good 2A teams. I believe Marion lost both of those games last year to Chilhowie & Geoege Wythe, so I don't think they're scheduling it to put an instant W on the board. Plus both of those schools are easy access off of 81 for Marion. Probably only 30-45 min drive at the most. The only exception is northwood who is terrible, but a county rival.

Marion beat Chilhowie last year but lost to GW.

Chilhowie is about 10-15 minutes away and GW less than a ½ hour. Rural Retreat is between Marion and GW. Northwood is actually easy access from Marion via I-81 and Rt.107, ½ hour at most. My Mom lives a few miles up river from Saltville. Now back in the old Rich Valley days it was a nice little haul even from Marion.

We were disappointed that age old rivalries against PH-Glade Spring and Abingdon are not being played this year. Tazewell, Richlands and Graham come over the Back of the Dragon this year.:) Lebanon also made the trip over.

The only long trip is to Gate City this weekend. No Lee County, Wise-Central or Union this year.

Back in the 80's I covered Smyth County HS football for the Smyth County News. Gone are the trips over to Grundy, Radford, Fort Chiswell, Carroll County and points in between...I worked in Oakwood so Buchanan County trips never bothered me. I do miss it at times.

Marion is the strange duck of SWVA High School football. Over the years they've had some rather good regular season teams and then gak a hairball in the playoffs. 1987 comes to mind. Marion had one of the best HS teams I had ever seen. Undefeated #1 Group AA Division 4 team in the State. They handled Tazewell fairly easily in the 1st round and the stunk up the place in the Regional Finals against Virginia High...a team they handled easily in the regular season.

Marion had to pick up Graham with the new district alignments. I'm sure they will get that series back, just bad timing.

The current system encourages large schools to find good overconfident small schools to schedule. We might see Oscar Smith-Sussex Central before long. 6A schools from NOVA are lining up to schedule 2A Riverheads, although the Red team can beat some of them.
