Colonial Beach had a great 1st half going toe to toe with the Trojans. Essex started game with a 50 yard TD Broaddus bomb to Rasaun Monroe. CB answered I think with a Lucas TD (I was at the other end at the time). Anyway, a slugfest seemed to be the case with CB taking the 14-12 lead into the half. CB had a major blow when Lucas was injured and went out during the 1st half. Hope he will be fine. Great young talent. Essex was also without the services of top rusher Leo Gaskins (All Conference in O and D). I hope that he will heal quickly.

The 2nd half was all Essex (great halftime adjustments to the coaching staff and energy level Finally went up - due to one not so tall, but plays big, young man). In the third, Essex up 19-14, kicked off to CB who had great field position. Game looked tit for tat. On that kickoff return, I give the play of the game to Ray Ray "Tough Man" Newbill. He is only 5'5 and 125 lbs but he came down the field and ROCKED the CB player. You could hear the POP all over. All the coaches, players, and fans (even the old timers) got hyped like have not seen this season. (Ray Ray also had two huge pics in the Rapp game last week.) The fans started chanting and dancing from that point on.

That grassroots cheering section is awesome (with the drums, chants, dancing etc.) The boys and fans feed off of that. Let's spread the word and have a huge section of partying fans (young and old). It really helps big time!

When I say that hit changed the game, I am not exaggerating. CB went backwards the next 3 plays like 25 yards. Anyway, Essex never looked back, scoring 27 points in the 2nd half, including a brilliant 4th and goal call (a pass to our 300 pound FB Markuis Lucas). Malik Martin had two TDs, including a 72 yard fumble return at the end. Rasaun Monroe had two huge TD receptions from Broaddus. The Defense played lights out in the 2nd half.

Next week will be at KW or KG (probably KW). The West always brings almost the whole town (that's awesome). Hopefully we will have a great crowd of Neck and Tidewater fans. (Sorry y'all lost KW - dang it was close - Congrats on a great playoff run - man so close, that Nottoway D must be outstanding, but KW's D gave 'em heck as well).

To Colonial Beach - Congrats on a Awesome season! You have our respect as tough, great kids and Outstanding coaches - to have the success that y'all do so few kids, well, very well done.) It's always tough to lose, but I know that y'all are so proud. Y'all might be the best small school in who knows how many states. Congrats again on a fine season!

I don't want to take away from your post uvacavs1 and I'm sure the great people that follow the Trojans are SICK and TIRED of hearing about it but I just wanted to say how irritated it made me when I read how the vhsl ruled on next week's game. I am from the west and I can tell you one thing if there is a football field with 2 goal post and two teams to play on it who freaking cares what the seating is like or anything else that apparently isn't up to par there in essex. Go to the game bring you a $10 fold out chair and root your team on!! Those kids earned the right to host that game at essex and they should be allowed to. I have one question what was the difference in the previous years? This is not the first time essex has had an opportunity to host I mean the facilities were good enough last year. The vhsl dropped the ball guys as far as I'm concerned! If it was the school from last year that complained and got this done then when/if they ever have an opportunity to host a state semi final game then they shouldn't be allowed just to show them how it feels to have there home field ripped away from them. Again sorry for hijacking your post and congrats on the win. Can't say I will be pulling for you guys next week ;) but good luck and hopefully the transition won't affect the outcome of the game!

We all agree with you bravesfan7327. We have hosted 3 or 4 state semi games. Trust me, Essex definitely prefers to play in the comforts of home sweet home (now we have a fairly close, but still an away game). However, this move was certainly NOT of Essex's choosing. But we have to make the best of it and look for the positives. Oh, just to let you know, it was two teams from out West that complained a lot to the VHSL last season and maybe this one (both are out and done this season).

Trust me, yes, Essex people are sick and tired of having to deal with this as you mentioned. No problems brother, you should pull for the area where you come from! Good luck! and look forward to meeting some fine folks from out that way.

That's pathetic on there part then! Hopefully if everything goes our teams way I will see you in Salem!

I haven't seen Essex, or Haysi this year, I have seen the rest. I think it looks fairly even, providing Honaker wins today. Honaker has to be more physical than any other team I've seen that's still playing. I wasn't overly impressed with Altavista last night. If PM had a passing game they could have won no defender on Altavistas defense played more then 5 yards off the line of scrimmage. It screamed throw the ball all night, and had they , it a different game. If Altivista were to play Honaker, I think Id go with Honaker. Honaker is well balanced on offence, and has the ability on Defense to stop the Juan Thournhill show.

Please other teams, follow radcats advice. It'll work I promise, there are no ball hawks in the Colonels secondary, don't worry about the roughly 15 INTs this year or that about half of those were returned for TDs. Or that about as many were in the end zone.

Why play more than five yards off the ball when they've thrown the ball like 40 times all year and you've got the speed to outrun the wide receivers? The only long pass was a halfback pass where a linebacker was in coverage and never looked for the ball.

Congrats to Essex. After seeing them earlier this year, and then seeing the brackets, I thought they should have been returning to states but like you said there was a lot of football to play.

All im saying is they didn't even attempt to adjust.

I don't claim to know it all, I just state my opinion. And that's just easy football. When you are getting stuffed do something to spread the defense out. At least line up 4-5 wide, run or pass.
There has been teams that has won championships with using only the run, Riverheads and Giles. But Giles went to pass for the win over Brunswick last year. Riverheads beat EM in 2010 using only the run. The difference is they didn't need to pass when your getting 6+ yards a carry. I think the coaching needs to be there for pass plays for when you need them, as Giles had. They may have drawn that play up in a TO. You never know
