The Buzz: We'll have more on this event soon on VirginiaPreps.com and it's a couple of wonderful days of basketball lined up at Floyd County. Yours truly will be making the six-hour trip from Virginia Beach there and it's more than just basketball; it's a total experience with a slam dunk competition, auction items and the proceeds going to a good cause (more on that later).
Some of the former players that have participated in this event include Andrew Wiggins of the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves, Florida State's Xavier Rathan-Mayes, Virginia Tech's Chris Clarke, Kansas' Frank Mason, UNC's Theo Pinson, Indiana's Robert Johnson, VCU's Mo Alie-Cox, the VHSL's all-time leading scorer Caleb Tanner (now at Radford) and many more.
Mountain Mission has a pair of commits in 6-foot-9 center Jethro Tshisumpa (Arizona State), rated a four-star prospect by Rivals.com, and 6-foot-10 center Maciej Bender (West Virginia), who's rated a three-star. Elev8 has four guys rated either a three-star or four-star with 6-foot-9 center Levi Cook, 6-foot-4 guard Donte Dorsey-Fitzpatrick (Ole Miss), 6-foot-4 guard Tyson Jolly (California) and 6-foot-4 guard Rodney Culver, plus a 6-foot-11 forward in Sam Alabakis headed to Louisiana-Monroe.
One of the major attractions will be Edrice 'Bam' Adebayo, the 6-foot-9 center from High Point Christian in North Carolina. Adebayo is a five-star recruit signed to play his College Basketball for John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats. Guard Ty Graves from High Point is also committed to Boston College. Cape Henry will see them as well as Huntington Prep, which features five-star big man Miles Bridges (Michigan State), four-star guard Curtis Jones (Indiana) and four-star forward Micah Thomas.
There are some under-the-radar games of note, too. Host Floyd County takes on Gate City in a matchup between two teams that were Preseason Top 10 in Virginia in Group 2A. Radford, led by guard Marcus Finley, takes on a Blacksburg team that can heat up from beyond the arc. George Wythe, ranked #3 in 1A and led by junior guard Malik Johnson, will get a potentially stiff test from Group 2A Giles.
