The Charles City Invitational is one of the rare invitationals that invite schools from all levels to meet on a level playing field. Schools from private leagues, Group 1A up to Group 6A all have an equal opportunity to have the feel of a state track meet before actually experiencing the event! The CCHS Invitational invites teams from all levels and classifications, usually garnering more than 500 athletes participating at a single meet. Want a few reasons why to attend the CCHS Invitational? Here are some:

Facilities- Despite being a Group A school, Charles City High School offers an 8-lane rubberized track, two jumping pits, two shot and discus areas, and a high jump area. F.A.T. timing system is used and enough area for canopies and tents to be placed on the outside of the track or in the stands.

Location- Conveniently located between Richmond and Williamsburg, Charles City County High School makes it easy for teams from the Richmond Metro and Tidewater to come together as one. But that doesn’t limit competition from other areas as well! Teams from around the state are invited!

Experienced Staff and Atmosphere- Charles City County High School have dedicated workers whom have experienced in each of their respective events for numerous years. These workers have operated their event for nearly a decade and ensure fairness and competitiveness, while enforcing regulations and warning athletes of improper conduct. The atmosphere of the facility and staff include a concession stand that serves food all day during the track meet, restrooms, a wall to display results upon completion of the events, clerks of course to greet and assist athletes, and a meet director with more than 35 years of track & field experience.

Affordability- The Charles City Invitational understands how tight some school’s budgets can be, but we also want student-athletes to receive ample opportunities to qualify for the state meet. Cost is $100 for one gender and $150 for both genders.

*New this year

-This year, we will allow each team to have four athletes per event. We want to continue to help your student-athletes to advance to the highest level of competition and this is one of the ways we are electing to do that.

-For the first time, we are allowing individuals to participate in the meet. Cost of individuals is $20 each and they must be affiliated with a high school. Four or more athletes constitute as a team.

Dre, how did the track meet go yesterday?

Hey DP,

Sorry for the late response. Haven't been on Preps lately. As far as the Invitational, it was awesome. Finally had great weather and great competition. Twenty teams appeared varying from a lot of different areas. I'll post a quick list of who attended below:

Armstrong- Jordan Poindexter legit 21.91 in boys 200 meter.

Blue Ridge Christian- First ever meet, came down from the mountains.

Booker T. Washington- Brought two from Norfolk.

Charles City- Obviously hosting duties.

Grove Christian- A regular at our meets.

Hampton- Came back up and have usually opened their outdoor season with us.

Henrico- A regular. Their head coach and our head coach were college teammates and roommates.

Mathews- A regular. In our district.

Meadowbrook- Won the boys division with some serious speed.

Middlesex- A regular. In our district.

Nandua- A regular. Love their team and dedication traveling from the Eastern Shore.

New Kent- A regular. Our rival. A 20-minute drive for them.

Prince George- A regular. Close by and has some surprise talent.

Richmond Christian- A regular at our meets. They are blossoming into a good program.

Spotsylvania- First time down. They really enjoyed it. Coach told me they were tired of running against regulars in the Battlefield and wanted a different look and they definitely got it.

Thomas Dale- Won the women's division. All you need to know is Titiana Marsh. National runner-up in the women's long jump.

Veritas School- First time down and were obviously happy to attend.

Walsingham Academy- First time attending and liked it so much they came back this week to attend another one of our meets.

Warhill- Returned after a one-year hiatus. They continue to grow and can't believe that the school is 10 years old already.

Windsor- A regular at our meet. Use to be in the Tri-Rivers with them.

Overall pretty good. Didn't have a couple of regulars but it was understandable. But we enjoyed running the meet and hope to have wonderful weather next year.

Excellent. Sounds like it went great. Second year in a row I had planned to ride down, and second year in a row my plans got dashed. 2018, I WILL be there.

I think it's neat that Nandua makes the long trip. But, virtually everywhere they go, it's a long trip.

That was a haul for Blue Ridge Christian also.

It's a testament that you do it right, that the private, religious affiliated schools chose to participate. They can be rather choosy about schools that they want to associated with. I'm not being judgmental, just stating reality.

It sounds like you put on a great meet and your hospitality was appreciated by all. Good job and congratulations.
