Besides Millbrook this will be Clarkes biggest test of the year. Lee has some athletes and can score in a hurry. Clarke is just a very good football team all around. two questions in this game for me is Can Lee stop that deadly running game of Clarkes and Can Clarke slow down that fast paced offense of Lee. Lee has started slow in both playoff games so far but managed to turn it on and win by wide margins. Will this be the year that clarke gets over the hump or will they find themselves going home early once again?

I think Clarke wins in the range of 35-24

They likely won't be able to do that this week and expect to come away with a W.

Agreed. There is something about this years version of Clarke County that has me thinking they will go all the way. From the games I have seen even the loss to Millbrook they played together as a unit. The fight and claw for 48 minutes and their defense is the best I have seen from Clarke in some time. Not to mention when you can run the ball like they can and eat up clock if need be or break the big one they are gonna be tough as long as the kids come to play. They are the only school left representing the bull run and the winchester area. I am hoping this game is on saturday so i can go watch this one. COrrect me if I am wrong but since goochland lost clarke would host the state semifinal if they beat lee?

I remember we played Lee a couple years ago in a playoff game at Clarke, 2013 I think. Clarke won, but it was a tough game. 41-25 was the score.

Lee has grown into a serious contender almost immediately. The new coach has these young men playing very well. They have always had talent but I am very impressed with coach Girlomo. I am going to say that Lee pulls off the upset and wins big, 49-21.

Not so fast....
With all due respect,Strasburg and East Rock hardly struck fear into anyone and Lee gave up points too quickly to them. Clarke may not be able to match Lee's athleticism, but if the Eagles can play heads up defense, Lee could struggle for a bit.
Yes, it was the first game of the Girolmo era vs. Riverheads but the quick Gladiators ran over them.
Clarke has a fairly potent ground game too so the worn out phrase: "mistakes may decide it" may apply once again.
I, too, must say the new Lee coach has been impressive, but the Valley District was overall weak this season, but competitive.
The winner gets the honor of hosting one of those 2A West juggernauts.

Clark wins 35 -24 . Lee is in no man land . Choke is the word ! They don't have 4 quarters in them .

I see the point both of you are making but for some reason, I just think they will roll in this one. I have heard of Clarkes ground game but have they played anyone either? I mean someone else on here was pointing out how weak the teams they played were collectively so comparatively they played about the same competition. We will see and maybe I am just trying to "wish" them into the semi's, lol.

I was not impressed with lee at all against strasburg. My lord they trailed at the half to a team that was missing half of its regular players and were playing jv kids in that game. They should have hung 100 on strasburg. clarkes first round opponett Arcadia would have beat strasburg. Lee better play all four quarters or it will get ugly in Clarkes favor. Clarke should be getting their stud Hunter Rodgers back i bekieve. He could have played the last two weeks but they let him reat and they still racked up the yards on the ground. Lee could pull the upset and if they do it will not be by 28. If Clarke Ciunty's defense comes to play they will limit lee can not say shut them down simply because you are to deep into the playoffs. after watching lee play defense i think they are going to have a real problem shutting down clarkes single wing. Clarke executes that like no other team i have seen recently. They are quick and deceptive with their ball handling skills. I dont think Lee has faced a team that has 3 1000 yard rushers that on any giving paly can go 80 yards to the house if you dont tackle as a team.

It figures to be a really good and hard hitting game. #2 seed playing the #3 seed Thanksgiving weekend, what more can you ask for. Either team is capable of winning, and I'm sure the kids on both teams are looking forward to it just as much as are the fans.

bullrun25, you may be right. I haven't seen Clarke and Lee does not travel well. Just a feeling I have about the way this team plays tells me they will find a way. Good luck to both since I am honestly indifferent as to who wins. I have my own demons to deal with in G-ville with Lunenburg coming to town, lol.

Lee averaged around 20 points a game the first four games of the year but is through the next eight games they are close to 50 a game. What have they done differently to achieve this huge difference in points?

Finally understanding their assignments within the O Girolmo runs would be my observation. Kids are playing for each other which is a marked change from previous years. Overall I would say team unity, it's a hard thing to get at times but you know it when you see it.

There was a bit of a learning curve early on as they had a new head coach, new offense, new system, etc. Also, Wilson and Riverheads were 2 of their first 4 opponents and they had pretty solid defenses this year.

After the first few weeks, I had a feeling the Leemen were in for a long year, as they didn't look sharp at all, but they have shown improvement every single week, and have quietly won 7 straight (and proved me wrong in the process). You all know the old saying: "it's not how you start, it's how you finish," and I'm hoping they can find a way to win this week. I don't care if the final score ends up being 3-2 or 62-0, I just hope they can find a way to advance against a very good Clarke squad.

Dunno where you get Lee not traveling well, they're 4-1 away.

I am speaking of the fanbase. They do not have a full house at times even when at home. The team has played well this year when on the road.

Ok, gotcha, thanks for clarifying! I'm hoping we get a loud rowdy crowd on our side. The "Rowdy Rednecks" section has been quiet lately. Too quiet. Maybe I can convince the band director to assemble a pep band for the game.

Man that's very disappointing. Ours even travelled to Goochland for the opening round of the playoffs.

O
You don't have a band at your home games?
Yes, we have a band. But....Marching Band season is over except for Christmas Parade and Apple Blossom in May. For the first playoff game we had against Arcadia, a pep band showed up, roughly about 3/4 of the marching band, but not in uniform. We had no band for the George Mason game. Being a parent of a daughter who played in said marching band, it is very hard to play the brass and woodwind instruments in the cold, so I can sympathize...but it's still nice to have the band!

BTW, the Clarke County Screaming Eagles Marching Band took first place in the South Eastern Conference 2A in the Tournament of Bands Championship competition in PA a few weeks ago.

The Clarke band is not known for its support of athletic events.

Gotta give a caveat though. They have Marching Band competitions they travel to on Saturdays during football season, then during basketball season, it's indoor drum line competitions. The band director says that he asks the kids if they want to do a pep band for basketball, but it's rare that they do.

This touches on another subject that always causes arguments...why there is funding for almost 10 coaches and assistant coaches for football but not the same amount for band? I know, football is revenue generating for pretty much all other athletics, but there are just as many kids in the marching band, if not more, than are on the football team. There is one band director, and one color guard director, maybe one assistant. This disparity is the main reason that the band program doesn't want to support the athletic program. It's supposed to be a symbiotic relationship.

Yes, you can argue that you need offense and defense coaches, linebackers coaches, qb coaches, etc...but you could make the same argument for needing pit instructors, horns, percussion, etc.

I'm rambling, so I'll stop, but that's the best explanation I can give.

One more thing, then I'll stop....The judges in Marching Band and Indoor Drum line competitions can sometimes be just as biased as some of the refs I've seen complained about on the football forums. Kinda funny to see the parallels.

I have noticed the same thing at Cheer Competitions.

As a former Richlands Blue Tornado Marching Band member, this really surprises me.

In my entire 5 years in the marching band, we missed ONE football game, and that was while we were in NYC after marching in the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade.

We traveled to places like Magna Vista, Hidden Valley, Brookville, and Lynchburg for all 4 of our state title games. They also went to Wilson Memorial last year (4 hour drive) and if we end up going to Clarke next week, they'll make that 5+ hour drive up there.

We did all of that while maintaining five or six competitions a season plus 3 parades and whatever other appearances we had to do.

The fact that a band can't go to a home playoff game is crazy. Even in the cold, there are ways around that. Plastic mouthpieces don't get cold. Or you can get real creative and tape hot hands to the outside of the mouthpiece.

Sorry to rant. That just blows me away that the band wouldn't play a home playoff game.

I absolutely think cheer is a sport and in no way was I implying otherwise. I also commend Richlands for the community and "whole" school support that they have. It's awesome to hear.
Sadly too many schools and its programs and its community members are so worried about what one has and what one doesn't have instead of the big picture of SCHOOL SPIRIT. Good luck to all 8 teams still playing and hopefully all 8 communities and programs support these teams as getting to the final 8 is a great accomplishment to all.

Any school band that travels to Clarke with their team for a playoff game would undoubtedly have the field available for a halftime performance if they so choose. The Clarke band never performs at home playoff games.

Any "sport" in which the ONLY way you can win is someone's opinion then that's not a sport. They are athletes no doubt.
