This was a strange game. Essex scored on their first possession and missed the extra point. Galax stopped Essex one inch short of the goal line as time expired for the half. 6-0
Galax punter puts it out at the one. 4 played later Galax gets a safety. Galax goes 3 and out and the punter put it inside the 10 again. This time the returner slips and falls at the 5. Quarter ends. Galax sacks QB in the end zone for another safety. 6-4.
The score stayed this way until the final Galax drive. Galax has a kicker that can hit from 40. So they get within his range and make a FG with about 7 sec left. 6-7.
Galax never scored a TD and won 7-6

I watch all 3 WV title games every yr and several of NC,GA,FL, TX, AZ and CA been using NFHS for yrs. Only difference is that I was at this one in person

Galax Head Coach Shane Allen did say that his freshman kicker Yandel Vera's range was 40 yards but since the Maroon Tide never got inside the Essex 25, Vera unleashed an ugly line drive kick from 42 yards out that hit the crossbar and somehow drop over it for a 7 to 6 victory. Has anyone out there ever heard of a team winning at state championship without scoring a single touchdown?

Yeah, Reynolds was missing their RB and Kings Mountain was missing their kicker. Kings Mountain had 3-4 turnovers and something like 130 yards in penalties. They had to kick off from the 5 yard line, Reynolds caught it on a one hop, and returned it 14 yards for a TD to put the game away.

Got a safety at the end of the 3rd. Received the free kick. Punted inside the 10. Went into 4th and got another safety. Score was 6-4 until game winning fg
