Salem High School girls basketball team outscored E.C. Glass 22-12 in the third quarter to pull away for a 71-47 victory in the Region 4D semifinals Wednesday, earning a berth into the Class 4 state tournament.
Bailey Rider led the Spartans (24-2) with 17 points, while Emme Custer and Gabby Crawley tallied 13 points apiece.
Destiny Word paced the Hilltoppers (16-9) with 16 points and E'Niya McCoy added 13.
Salem hosts Charlottesville (23-2) for the Region 4D championship on Friday in a rematch of last year's region title game.
The winner earns home-court advantage in the state quarterfinals.
