Class 4 Title Game - Phoebus vs Varina

The VHSL got it right switching these state semi matchups.
Gonna be a lot more points in this game than people think imo.
I give Phoebus the slight edge. Both teams have good defenses but I think the Phoebus defense is a tad better. I think they get more stops than Varina’s defense and will capitalize on offense due to them having a passing game and run game
I just don’t understand if your Tusky, you have one of if not the best receiver in Region 4C in Dawson Pough. Why not throw the ball and give a chance to make a play
Was the time/protection for the QB there to make it happen or was the play calling questionable? I admittedly didn't watch any of that game.
No they didn't. They destroyed the integrity of the bracket by making the changes in-season.

We got the best possible matchup in the state title and that’s all that matters. A beat D 34-0 and B beat C 28-0. We didn’t need to see this in state finals

All classes should make this decision in middle season when the best matchups begin to clarify. Of course in class 3 LCA will always win until they move them up as needed.
A lot of pressure was being put on tusky quarterback he really didn't have time to sit in the pocket and throw the ball. They hadn't seen a defense like Varina's all year . My opinion Varina left 20 points on the field. And the play calling in the second half was very conservative because the defense had control of the game. I will say the teams that are putting 50, 60, 70 points on the board just about every game they are not around, I'll say it once and I'll say it twice like in my previous post defense wins championships. And that will determine the game Saturday at Liberty University
The VHSL had nothing whatsoever to do with it. It was 100% B Regions decision.

I get the argument against changing the bracket mid season because it does send a really bad message. But at the same time I think you have to try to minimize the chances of blowouts in your state championship games.
🤣 you ever been to a Varina/75 game? Mann it’s history. King’s Fork wore some black Dickie’s and Forces two years ago and got cooked. We busted them 1x in football and 2x in basketball to win the ship. Maury beat us in 2019 football and basketball to win the ship. Hampton got us in March. No love lost! Just shows you how dominant the 75 and East End sports is!

If they had changed up the bracket pairings prior to the season, that's one thing. But to "fix it" and change them late in the season for only one classification is wrong.
But based on your type of replies, I'm not surprised that you quite understand my point.

This is where the VHSL should step in and say No. And if the region wants to propose it for next season, then they would put it up for a vote in the Executive Committee prior to the athletic calendar starting.
Then put it to a vote before the season begins and don't change things late in the season just because potential pairings are trending in one direction.
You never know who's going to get blown out though. There have been great matchups which have been anticipated and they've turned into blowouts. You can't always stop them. So I don't agree with that argument.
And to be honest, I think the change was made personally because they were anticipating Dinwiddie in the Final. And although Varina is extremely talented and good enough to bear Dinwiddie, I don't think their appearance was anticipated. The decision makers probably feel like they lucked out just because they got a competent team that may compete.
I'm guessing they looked historically. Historically, the only team in C4 not in A or B that's made noise in the state is Salem. Proper NoVA outside of 5 and 6 hasn't disrupted anything since....???
Nah. The thing is we don’t really care about what Varina did with anyone else in the 757…we are Phoebus. 🤷🏽♂️ Treating this game like any other game going into it. Of course when we hit the field the emotions of the game will come out though

Exactly and Salem being down this year really would’ve made the state semis the state title. I hope they keep it this way tho or change the region matchups every year.

All this talk about changing it mid playoffs sound like sour grapes. We beat the hell out of two mediocre at best/scared teams in the semis. The two best teams playing.
The thing is there is no smoke. We have zero history with Varina honestly. Like people up here really think I trash talk teams, like Dinwiddie for example, but I’m just giving my opinion and it’s being read as trash talk.
And yes I’m sure the dude complaining about the playoff change is a fan of a C or D school that feels like their region’s chances of getting to a state title are shot now.
Wasn't a blowout last yr. Nothing saying we won't have a blowout this yr. Teams matchup differently. I hope we have another classic.
