Can someone post an updated 4A standings playoff situation?

Power rankings have been coming out Monday evening or Tuesday morning on the VHSL Football website. We all are Jones'in until then. There is a guy on the Class 6 forum that tracks Reg C&D. He's great cause he posts Friday night if all the games are done.

I understand why they haven't put them out yet, but they could have. Just update after these games. It appears they update the Master schedule often

they wait until all games are in because of bonus points.

Yes, I know why they do it. My point was that it is a new week, and since there is a small amount of games today that they could have done the weekly ratings and then updated. In fact, there were games another Monday and they came out before those games

So is it the top 4 in each Region that make the playoffs?

Warwick dangerous if they get in the playoffs!!!!

Churchland still has to play Lake Taylor THEN Maury. If they win either, look out!!! Otherwise, they'll have to depend on the Bonus points from those top teams to get in.

What I don’t fully understand is how teams with far fewer than the scheduled 6 will be treated. I can see 5 or even 4 games played at the end but what if it’s 1 or 2. Smithfield makes the playoff cut right now but has only played 1 game! And it’s not even against the same class team. Shouldn’t there be a minimum to qualify , like 4?

The fewer games you play hurts your ability to make the playoffs unless teams lose. Your points + bonus points are divided by the games you play. Teams that keep winning will pick up bonus points as long as the defeated team wins games. These teams avg will rise each. The Region would be the ones to decide a minimum game played to make the playoffs. Each region can be different

Not necessarily though, I don't know the situation with Smithfield, but doing the points for 2a, in Region A Nottoway has played 1 game and are currently 1st, over KW who has played 3 games. Both undefeated.

In most cases your premise is correct, and when there are many teams undefeated in a Region it makes a difference (i.e. 4B), but 1 loss drops rating far more this year than others

So Menchville and Smithfield are tied because the both beat Div 4 teams and none of the teams they beat have won a game. So no bonus points yet.

So smithfield beat York. 20 div 3. +2 for div difference and +2 because York has a win. Giving Smithfield 24. What's hurt Menchfield is their opponents have not won a game yet.

This is because their opponents are not winning. If you play Div 4 teams and go 10-0 or 1-0 and none of your opponents win a game your avg will be 24.

Ha. I think you missed my point. I wasn't referring to a specific situation or need points explained. I have been doing them for YEARS on here for 2a. Just pointing out that just using a blanket statement that less games WILL hurt can be wrong. If Both have the same number of losses then most likely it will hurt the team with less games, but if for some reason Nottoway played only 1 more game and KW 2 (they missed last game), KW could have played double the games, have 0 losses, and be outpointed.

What's happened in this situation as of now is both teams top scores are 16 with 6 bonus points. Then KW has 2 games with a score of 16 and 2 bonus points because the opponents have only 1 win. The lower scores put KW behind

The only way it helps is if your 1 win was against a good opponent that is winning. If it's against a bad opponent it will hurt.

Ok man, you are going to keep trying to explain numbers to me that I already know obviously, so I am out. Have a good one

Im just giving examples. Yes if your opponents are no good when you play more games your avg will be lowerthan if you played one game and beat a good opponent.

If you think I don't know that then you are sorely mistaken. Again, have a good one

If you already know. Don't put for some reason in you reply. It made it seam as if you didn't know. My apologies if I misunderstood

In Basketball, Cox only played 1 game. They were the Top seed in the Class 5 Reg B playoffs. But I believe BB had a bigger bracket.

I was surprised when the brackets came out and Cox was 1. Basketball doesn't use a point system. I can only guess that the region did a coin flip

Not a VHSL rule. I just spoke to the horse's mouth to confirm this. Each region determined before the season the minimum number of games that must be played to qualify for that region's playoffs. So it will vary in the different regions at all 6 classes. Region 3B set the number at 3. I also found out that the VHSL lets the region set the method of choosing who qualifies up to the region. You do not have to use VHSL power points to select your regional qualifiers. Region 3B is using the power points. While I was asking these questions, an email came in from VHSL asking the regions to let them know what method they were using if not using power points.

You mean the "some reason Nottoway only played 1 more game..."

Well KW missed their last game because of CV19, if Nottoway had the same happen, then it's possible. And it doesn't even have to be an issue within the 2 programs mentioned. It is certainly possible in this Strange year for teams to miss a game.

I believe you read some reason and somehow inserted into a different part of the message. But it's all good, things happen.
