Not trying to restart an old fire, but are there rules regarding the length of cleats used on grass fields versus turf? Was just thinking about all the rain we've had and wondered if longer cleats were allowed or do they just hold onto more dirt, making the player's feet heavy and defeating the purpose.

The days of replacement cleats are just about gone. Pretty much every kid wears molded cleats or built in already. You don’t see the old wrenches etc too much anymore.

The only reference I could find regarding length of cleats in the NFHS Rule book is:
Nonremovable cleats are limited to studs or projections that do not exceed ½ inch in length measured from the sole of the shoe to the tip of the cleat and which are made with nonabrasive rubber or rubber-type synthetic material that does not have or develop a cutting edge.

And this mention of illegal equipment:
Examples of this type of foul include, but are not limited to, the wearing of cleats that exceed ½ inch, or the presence of a sticky substance on a player’s uniform. If a player is detected wearing illegal equipment, his head coach is charged with an unsportsmanlike conduct foul under Rule 9-9.

I ain't sure. Let me call out west and see. I feels confident I know some people who know some people.....he he, he he he, he he, out that ways that may have sum experience with this sort of thang

Longer than 1/2" cleats are still illegal but have always wondered if watering the field into an icy mudbog to slow down a great running back is also addressed in VHSL rules. Based on my observation, VHSL doesn't enforce even blatantly egregious offenses so it doesn't make any difference illegal or not. So, I say turn on the sprinklers and call CMT..oh forgot CMT is out of business but Amazon probably has some if your inclined to play dirty..

95% of all cleats are hard molds now. Most manufacturers do not offer screw-in style anymore!
