We begin the Capital Region portion of our contest with two legendary coaches squaring off.
Lloyd Swelnis coached predominantly in the 1970's at Thomas Jefferson and Manchester. At TJ from 1970-73 and then at Manchester from 1977-1980. 6 winning seasons in this span, Coach Swelnis was the first coach to take Manchester to the playoffs where he went 0-1. Of course Manchester's stadium is named for him but for four seasons he did coach the Vikings in the Capital District at that time. 48-31-2 in his 8 seasons.
Of course Coach McConnell was the legendary coach at Lee-Davis who took the Confederates to a region title in 1995 but had them in contention for more year in and year out. In 24 seasons(1977-2001) Coach Mac had 18 winning seasons and made the playoffs 8 times where he was 6-8. Coach Mac finished his career with a 161-98-4 mark... the most wins among any Lee-Davis coach.
