Andrai Turner stepped up big getting positive yards consistently versus the tough Surry defense.[/B]

Surry County got things going on a frigid night with Timothy Marsh Jr. going up top to Dreheim Davis for a 66-yard pass completion but would be run down at the 10 yard line. That tackle would change the entire game. As Surry could not give Marsh enough time to throw or establish the run. With kicking woes all season long, Surry would attempt to go for it on 4th down only to be tackled in the backfield for a loss.

Colonial Beach would finally begin executing after dodging a bullet early. Cameron Headley, Andrai Turner, and Nick Graves moved the ball down the field with ease. Graves would go up the middle on a delayed quarterback draw scoring from 3 yards out for the touchdown ending the drive. Lamar Lucas would hit the hole off the right tackle and get the 2-point conversion to make it 8-0 Beach.

The Air Cougars showed up as Marsh would find Denzel Dobie from their own 16 yard line for an 84 yard touchdown strike. The pass to Jarad Barray came loose hitting the hard ground according to an official on the conversion. 8-6 Drifters had the lead with 6:55 left before halftime.

The time on the clock was just enough time for the Drifters to put together another key drive as Graves and Turner would pick up yards quickly getting into Cougar territory. Soon after Graves would go in from a yard out. Colonial Beach would go up 14-6 going into halftime.

Surry came out ready to change the way the game was going. The ground game was completely scrapped as Colonial Beach gave no hope of being pounded on in the cold. Marsh would find Davis for a big completion but the ball would fly out while trying to make a move. Lucas would recover the fumble and the team that had the momentum no longer had the confidence.

After getting a stop Surry would find themselves driving into Beach territory again in the 3rd but when Marsh would see his protection break down after not being able to find a receiver would make it even tougher. The Drifters would catch a break as getting Marsh down would result in a fumble.

Colonial Beach could not answer as their drive stalled out as Surry's defense clamped down giving themselves a chance.

"It felt like we were a step behind on what we needed to do. It's there. We just weren't doing what we need to do." said Coach Scott Foster.

There would be no need to worry as In the 4th Colonial Beach faced a 4th and goal, Turner would throw up a pass toward the front corner of the endzone that seem to stay up in the air forever for Michael Mothershead who hauled it in making it 20-6. Turner would get the conversion as well as Surry found themselves down 16 with 7:57 left to play.

Surry's running back Ahkeem Briggs was completely taken away. He finished with 5 carries for 5 yards on the night.

Trying to make it interesting again, Surry looked to test the secondary as Colonial Beach went exclusively to cover 2. Marsh would force a pass into double coverage that would be picked off by Alonzo Turner which sealed the game for Colonial Beach. From there they would drive the ball down to the one yard line. The Drifters would milk out the clock from there as a great season ended for Coach Ervin Joneses Cougars.

Marsh would pass for 210 yards on the night but the team was held to minus 9 yards rushing. Colonial Beach taking away that key element was key to their victory.

"Defensively we played very well. We are a very good defensive team," Fosted added.

Surry finishes at 10-2 for year posting one of their best records in nearly 15 years.

Andrai Turner rushed for 160 yards to lead the Drifters while Graves punch in 95 yards to go with his 2 touchdowns.

Colonial Beach (10-2) gets to avenge a previous lost as they face Essex who struggled to win a rematch with Rappahannock.

Foster expressed on the upcoming game. "We believe we played them well the first game. We won't lay down. We will be ready for them!"

KING WILLIAM 28 RIVERHEADS 27[/B]

On a weekend where Riverheads thought they would be celebrating the advancement of their football team to go along with a state championship appearance with their volleyball team, King William put a shock on Gladiator nation. After a scoreless first quarter, King William proved that they could play with Riverheads. In the second quarter, Coach Dylan DeHart's squad showed they can execute their offense on them as well. Devin Berry-Tucker surprised the Gladiators with an 18 yard run to make it 7-0 Cavs. Alex Dandridge would nail the extra point.

Lafayette Pendleton would make his presence felt as a redzone threat grabbing an 11 yard pass from Jacob Jones to make it 14-0 King William going into the half.

In the second half, Riverheads would answer on drive set up by a big run by Cole Smiley. King William would step up and Berry-Tucker would go in again to give King William a 21-7 lead.

Feeling the pressure, Coach Robert Casto's team would respond soundly as Smiley would cash in on two consecutive drives. One touchdown would be a 45 yard run.

With the game tied 21-21, King William would gather themselves and put together a championship like drive. Camajae Peatross would cap off the drive stretching the football just over the goalline before given driven back making it 28-21.

Riverhead's Ben Agnor helped the Gladiators respond getting in from 4 yards out with 28 seconds left to play. On the extra point All-Shenandoah district selection Tristan Robson's kick would be no good. King William would recover the kick-off and advanced to go to Crewe and face Nottoway who also shocked an undefeated team on the road.

BRUNSWICK 39 GOOCHLAND 21[/B]

Goochland came out strong building a 14-0 lead on some good running and things looked very good. Soon everyone could see why Brunswick was the VirginiaPreps preseason selection to win it all. Brunswick's Darren Owens, Jakal Williams, Trestan Easter displayed speed scoring consecutively giving the Bulldogs a 20-14 lead at the half.

Brunswick's Marshall King would haul in a 61 yard touchdown pass from Owens. Owens who is the top rated dual threat quarterback in 2A rushed for 137 yards and passed for 169 on the night. The team amassed 486 yards of total offense on the night. Next week Brunswick travels to face Wilson Memorial.

PARRY MCCLUER 48 WASHINGTON & LEE 28[/B]

The Fighting Blues showed why they are undefeated and dominated the Eagles early to advance to the 1A East South Sectional title game versus Altavista. Ryheem Dawson rushed for 254 yards and 4 touchdowns while Logan Arthur rushed for 169 yards and 2 touchdowns. Dawson also had 172 yards receiving on the night.

ESSEX 21 RAPPAHANNOCK 7[/B]

Rappahannock forced several mistakes and came up big defensively in the first half only and only being down 7-0 at halftime. Andre Brown scored to tie the game in the 3rd 7-7 but Dominek Broaddus stepped up with a 50 yard run to make it 14-7 at the end of the 3rd. Broaddus would ice the game in the 4th with a 6 yard run. Essex held the Raider's Marcus Byrd to 76 yards rushing on the night.

EXTRA POINTS[/B]

All the Sectional title games are going to be intense and must see games next week. King William will be trying to avenge last year's lost to Nottoway. Brunswick will take on a solid program in Wilson Memorial. The game that will be filled with emotion is bound to be in Tappahannock as Colonial Beach gets their second shot at taking out Essex. Have a great weekend and have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Good stuff TheSe2! Thanks for sharing. We had some good games this week. The Riverheads/King William game was a classic for sure (I'm glad Waynesboro/Broadway was in Broadway last night, or I would have been at that game and missed out on this one, I wanted the shorter road trip in the cold lol). Enjoyed meeting some of the folks from KW last night. I had not seen KW since 2000 so it was nice to see them in action again.

I think Wilson has the toughest draw in the east this week with Brunswick, I really think Brunswick can win the State title this year.

As for Colonial Beach and Essex, I will pull for CB this week, simply because they are the ones I am most familiar with. I got to see them in the State Semis in Swoope, in their shootout game against Buffalo Gap. Lots of big plays and plays that would have been Top 3 nominees if WHSV would have had that segment to their "endzone" coverage back then. That was one of the better games I've seen. The coaching in that game was phenomenal on both sides. So many adjustments, teams were scouted so well, it was like a chess match. Gap going to the GUN and showing some zone/read option shook the defense (and then opened up their normal offense after that, as CB was shutting them down), and one of CB's best players getting hurt changed the momentum.

Altavista/PM is actually a game that really interests me this week. Most people think Altavista is probably the best team in 1A and 2A (myself included), but anybody can be beat. While I think Altavista is the better team, I like how PM can potentially matchup with them (so long as that Altavista speed isn't too much for them). If PM plays a darn near perfect game and executes their smash-mouth game plan (and can capitalize on a turnover or two), the Blues could pull the upset. My prediction is either a comfortable Altavista win or a down to the wire PM win. For some reason I have a feeling that it will come down to a big play like a last minute 2 point conversion or something (just a hunch, but I have been wrong before!).
