Colonial Beach gets the big win over their Tri Rivers rival, Franklin, 18-8. CB has less than 100 boys (lost a great coach, evidently promoted another) yet always plays good, tough ball! Congrats!

Rappahannock barely lost 7-6 at West Point in a game neutral observers reported the Raiders should have won. However, WP held on to get the W despite who won in the stats category.
Rapp opens at 1-2 but could easily be standing at 3-0 (just lost a close one to Middlesex last week).
Much improvement shown which is great but as they say" close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades".

as nnkalumni2 started last week here are the current standings for the old NND...
Washington and Lee 2-0
Northumberland 2-0
Essex 2-1
Colonial Beach 1-1 (only loss a close one at 3A Spotsy)
Lancaster 1-1
Rappahannock 1-2
The NND should have at least 3 teams in the State Top Ten.
There is no doubt that Essex should be ranked #3 behind Riverheads and Sussex. (I really like Hurley and have posted several times positively about them but above Essex, come on man).
I will also say this the Northumberland Indians have the talent, speed, size, and now good coaching to be able to finally compete with and, possibly, even defeat Essex.
Essex, especially at home, is definitely the favorite (and should be) but if healthy and well prepared, NHS could indeed pull the upset.
Of course, lots of tough football games before then so all must stay focused.....

Not sure why anyone thinks Rapp should have easily won. Though they were better than I thought, the stats are very even, with the exception of penalties which killed WP. And a turnover deep in our own field led to Rapp score. WP defense stepped up when they needed, even though they we were without 2 of our best d players. And we lost our starting QB in the 2 nd qtr.

I see the NND as a one horse runaway with a race for second....maybe. Essex is a mere few weeks from getting the penalties and mistakes squared away from being Dominant. I don't see another state ranked team in the Neck. The Eagles and the Indians are the ones in the next best position. The Beach is still going to be a scrappy hard nosed football team that won't go away. Things are improving in Warsaw for the Raiders.
I dont think anyone said easily and didnt their staring QB get the game clinching Int. If not he def was on Defense at the end of the game. Turnovers killed Rapp and also not converting on that 1st drive on the 1yd line. Heck of a game & congrats to WP
Yes the qb is also the starting safety, so when he went out, we were down 3 guys on d. He didnt play again until that last play. Hopefully he gets healed up. Much resepct to Rapp, they will be tough and force in the NND. I've seen Essex, and I would not be surprised if Rapp were to upset them
Anything can of course happen, but I would definitely be surprised if Rapp beats Essex this year. West Point may have a better team then the last few years, but I would consider them 4 TD underdogs in a match-up against Essex.
I certainly respect all opinions and enjoy reading them.
However, the NND definitely has at least two and very likely three (need to learn more about the Eagles) State Top Ten worthy teams.
The top 3 NND teams are better than three of the current top ten and possibly 2 or 3 more. It will become more clear as the weeks go on. Heck, CB may become top ten worthy if they continue on their current trajectory.
If I am proven wrong down the road, I have no problem admitting it.
Yeah, but it also took to the 11th quarter of the season before their defense gave up a score and that was against Sussex, Franklin, then King William finally broke through in the second half. And they scored 42 on Franklin and 36 on King William.

This is definitely not a shot at West Point, as those kids play their hearts out and very well may have a top notch defense. It is more of an account of Essex's potential fire power. They still have to clean up some things, penalties and turnovers, but they have some serious playmakers. The NND play is going to be a good one. CB may need a little time after you lose a star like Lucas, but they are a tough out for anyone. Everyone else in the district has seemed to elevate their play as well. Not going to be many blowouts this year. Region A has some solid teams in the middle of the pack.
