Comets surprise Lake Taylor

The Eastern District race got a little more interesting after the Granby Comets surprised previously undefeated Lake Taylor 4-1.

Trey Hanchey pitched a complete game while striking out seven to earn the win. Henchy got out of a bases loaded 3rd inning with a double play and he survived the 5th innings with the help of another double-play with two on.

Granby tied the game when Nick Friant advanced to home plate after a cutoff throw ended up in the Lake Taylor dugout. Demetri Rivera got things started in the 5th inning with a leadoff single and he scored the game-winning run when Jared Share doubled left center.

Hanchey helped his own caused with a 2-run, 2-out double in the top of the seventh. Two sacrifice bunts by Ben Henderson contributed to runs in the 5th and 7th innings.

Lake Taylor blew plenty of opportunities to score stranding four runners at third base and leaving nine runners on-base. The Titans took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a single by Justin Erby and an RBI by Joseph Kelly. Taylor Erby, who is headed to Virginia Wesleyan with his brother, followed with a triple but was not able to score.

Taylor took the loss for the Titans after giving up seven hits and four walks (two intentional). He struckout seven.
