SpringerNation as suffered another tough blow. Last year during our spectacular season run to our 2nd consecutive State Championship, you might have remembered "Angie Strong" was a big part of our drive. Angie Mellette (sp?) was our Wide Receiver Chris Thaxton's mother who lost her life after her battle with cancer. She passed away right as the playoffs were getting started. Strong Christian lady and a big part of our program. We wore purple t-shirts with "Angie Strong" to bring awareness to what I think was Breast Cancer. I might be wrong, not sure.. She was young and full of life. Chris dedicated the rest of the season as did our entire team to Angie. If you remember, Chris caught the winning TD late in the 4th quarter to defeat Stone Bridge 35-29. It was like a gift sent from the Heavens!
This week, Carlos Johnson is Angie's husband and Chris' Step father, lost his life and a much too soon, young age. He wa a youth football coach who coached with many in the Highland Springs area, current players on our team and the staff here. I don't know what took him, but God got a terrific Angel... I am pretty sure that Carlos was a Pastor and of course a very deep faith in God. It is tough to have lost 2 great people from the same family who supported Highland Springs Football for everything they had!! I ask you to join in and say a prayer and positive thoughts to them.
I send my deepest sympathy and prayers to Chris Thaxton and the rest of his family as they try to get through this grieving process.
