Yes, Essex finally defeated ole Altavista (Semis win) in either Basketball or Football. Essex beat them good too it sounds like.
I was very impressed with how A-town runs their Athletic programs when I visited the school a few years ago when they had Thornhill. Congrats to Essex Coach Moore and his program on the big, lopsided win.
Makes me think of how difficult it is to get out of the NND in most sports. Heck, Northumberland beat Essex both times this season in close basketball games in the regular season and then Essex knocks the Indians off in the one that counts.
Often, the hardest part for many NND teams is to just get out of the NND (especially in baseball, softball, soccer, and volleyball).
On the way home from work tonight I tuned in to the great broadcast announcers for WRAR -WNNT radio and caught some of the game. I haven't played super close attention to B-Ball so I missed this but they said that Lancaster had destroyed Mathews twice during the regular season but LHS ended up being seeded below Mathews. Looks like the seeding didn't matter in this particular case, but come on....
Good luck to LHS and Essex!
