True, they had every opportunity to fold.....and they didn't. This Appomattox team has the heart of a champion. Unbelieveable heart......gotta take my hat off to them.
Hate passing from the 3 yrds line....did last year's superbowl not teach us anything...was wanting a Richlands vs Union game....run it next time....wasn't there...just heard int on 3rd down from the 3 in ot...run it...kick it..or run it twice...hate passes that close to the end zone
I listened on line and honestly, I'm shocked this one got away from Richlands. Of course, it sounds like Appo has some player makers out there and made the plays they needed to down the stretch. Hate it for Richlands, was pulling for them to get to the next level.......Lord willing, I be in Salem to watch however will be there. I don't know anything about the east teams, but boy, they better be really, really good to beat either Union or Appo!
Appomattox showed true grit after going down 14 with 6 mins left. Hats off to their coaching staff for not panicking and keeping them focused. Both teams shot themselves in the foot multiple times but they both played their hearts out. What a game it was.
If Richlands would of told their Defensive Ends to stop running up field and contain, odds are they probably would of held on. Good game from both teams, it was fun to see a team like Richlands air it out
I also listened online and it sounded like Appo could have easily been up 21-7 at the half but miscues inside the 5 cost them points. It was just a slobberknocker, last man standing game sounds like.
With all due respect to the West teams, I think the East teams are being seriously overlooked.
I say at least one team will win.
More than likely, both home teams (Clarke and Appomattox) will win.
Home field means a lot this time of the year.
I love the pass but when Richlands had first and goal from the 5, number 14 should have got ball 3 times.

We had what in my opinion was the biggest miscue of the game and in the end cost us dearly and that was the fumble on our first snap in the endzone that Appo scored on the recovery, but the Raiders deserve all the respect they get because it would have been easy to give in after we had the 2 TD lead in the 4th. A lot of teams we have played would have quit, but they didn't and now they are going to play in the state semi-final........good luck to them and to Union, would love to see a Union Appo final !

You are correct, Appo had two turnovers inside the Richlands 5 yard line. Halftime score could have easily been 21-7

On paper, Buffalo Gap at Appomattox sounds like one hell of a game. I might actually plan to attend it if I were not going to be otherwise occupied down in Wytheville!
I am basing my assessment on seeing Appo in the Riverheads jamboree in which they appeared to be pretty much dead even with us. If I recall, RHS might have come out one TD ahead but remember those were scrimmage conditions. Then in the regular season, we did beat Gap by one score, but had to work like the devil and stage a fourth quarter comeback to get that win.
Meanwhile the Bison seem to have hit a new level with Friday's rout of Greensville. So I see this game as a toss-up. Would love to see a Riverheads/Buffalo Gap doubleheader in Salem if each can make it!

If Gap can't pass they will lose because Appomattox defense is stellar against the run.
Man I hate to lose.....lol I want get into the refs or play calling anybody that watched or listened knows how it went. I think our defense proved to some that we was not just an offensive team.

Great game.Me being a Gretna guy great to see 2 good teams play.Appo.going to the 2 back set gave their qb. Time to throw in 4th quarter. That was the game changer.Richlands folks were class act .Can't say the same for Appo.folks.
I agree with JR that Richlands folks were class acts. I talked with several and they were good football people. Couple of Appomattox fans near me need schooling on football games.
You might be right but I'm very skeptical. If betting were proper and legal I would gladly put $1000 down for Appo/Union final and I don't wager unless it's almost a sure thing. Bigger upsets have happened and that's why we play the game. Both west teams have been tested to the max in regular season and playoffs and both are championship worthy. Admittedly don't know much about Clark/BG, just my opinion on their ratings and who they have beaten versus the western teams
Hardly an upset for any of the final four teams to beat one of the others. These teams aren't in the semis without good reasons.
I didn't say the eastern teams didn't earn their way to the semi's or that they were not good teams. It's think that an honest analysis would say both Appo and Union are both heavily favored to win and it would be a huge upset if either lose. If I were Clark's or Bg's coach I would want that and use it to motivate my team all week and during the game. Good luck to all four teams.
Was you the Gretna fan on our side that went to tell police on our fans? They said our fans were bashing Gretna fan because they were cheering for Richlands. They told me the plan backfired and police escorted the Gretna fan to Richlands side. If that is true, that was the funniest thing I heard all night.
That was the worst throw I have seen our QB throw all year. Glad it happened early in game.
You must have been the guy that was arguing with our fans because you was cheering for Richlands. What did you expect?

I spent time on both sides, but I not cheering for anyone. I was just watching game. I never saw any Police activity.
That LONG ride is certainly a disadvantage for the visiting teams - I think it will have more affect on the game than people think
First, I want to say that I am very pleased with the display of sportsmanship and kindness from majority of the fans. There were some bad apples in the crowd and on social media disrespecting the Appomattox Fan Page during the game. I know every community has them, ours as well. I want to personally apologize if any of ours might have displayed the same behaviors. I enjoyed meeting some of the Richlands fans and I give props to the football program. I guess we will possibly be seeing each other next year. Yall have many coming back (we do as well) and we have some coming up from JV that will fill in what we are going to lose this year.
I heard numerous Appomattox players say that Richlands players were showing great sportsmanship on the field as well. It was a great game and either team could have won. It was a heavy weight bout and both teams were throwing HEAVY BLOWS to the head and gut! It was great seeing #7 play live, @BCKnights YES, he is certified official!!! The kid can ball!!! #11 is a great talent that I heard he is going to FSU? Any given Friday night, Matt Page and Phillip Fleshman would have taken their runs to the HOUSE!!! You saw that first hand @RichlandsRyan vs. Amherst with Page (83 yards). #11 caught them from behind, WOW?!!! Mad respect for him and I SALUTE!!! He has to have a 4.4/40 time. #8 is a great player as well, he surprised me with his size and athletic ability, he was quick too! I cant say enough about the athletes yall have on that team. My hats off to your team, yall tested Appomattox in ways they needed to be tested. No reason to hang your heads, both teams will be back on top next year. I feel that heart won this game, not saying yall dont have that, but our boys just wanted it that BAD!!! It was like watching a Rocky movie (he never gives up).

Yeah I know what you mean, when Amherst played there heard different stories about Appomattox fans and actually witnessed one myself. He was on the Amherst side taunting us even with a kid in his shoulders. He was arrogant, heard he got escorted out, not sure
So I guess Amherst dont have them kind of fans? Of course not.....
Every community has them.
