Congrats to Essex on the big win over the "fav" Altavista

Go Essex! Now go on back to Salem and make sure to bring that freaking elusive State Championship Trophy back this time to Tappahannock & the NND!

The last one was what in 2009?

15 years ago... I remember it well (and many of the devastating losses at Salem too, 2 against Altavista).

It was also fun watching Essex play earlier this season at Northumberland.

It seemed like 4-5 of the star players whose names were often being announced on the NHS loud speaker were sons of former Essex football stars from back in the "Essex glory days."

No disrespect at all intended to Essex's opponent next week, but I'd definitely say that the odds of winning the state title are really in Essex's favor this year!

Certainly the odds of an Essex state victory are strong as long as the Trojans keep playing like they have recently.

That loss at home to Rappahannock in the regular season was just what the Essex boys needed to refocus. Excellent job to the players and coaches. Sometimes a shocking loss (and at the time it definitely was) like that can send a team in the opposite direction so well done!

(Of course, ole Riverheads returns to 1A next year as well...).

This Essex team is on a mission. That Rappahannock loss will end up being the best thing to happen to them. They're just so physical on both sides of the ball. They run that double wing to precision and that defense is lights out.

Essex has so far outscored their playoff opponents (including two #1 seeds)...

207 to 8

As kwhs95fan stated....on a mission.

And without Altavista only having to go 2 yards for their score today, they'd never have scored

Was one of those games I’d argue did not feel as close as the score indicated. That final minute of the first half really swung momentum where I thought Essex would be in trouble for the second half, but they responded

Agreed. It could have easily been 44-0.

I didn't see very much of this game because the others were more competitive. I checked in at halftime and it was 8-8. Then when I checked again it was 16-8. Next score I saw was 30-8. So yes, it does sound like Essex is on a mission. But from what I saw of the Grayson game, they will not give up until the final horn, so it could be a real battle. Essex certainly needs to win after that bizarre 7-6 game last year.

I sort of do disrespect next week’s opponent, not the players nor the coaches just the leadership in that county that threatened to sue to stay 1A when they should be 2A. I think Essex wins big time!
