Congrats to the Bulldogs on #15.

But I wish Holland was going somewhere other than Radford University. I have no use for RU. I do not like them .

I like their coach, Mike Jones, who was an assistance during VCU's Final Four run in 2011. He's a class act and will always very respected in my books. He not only makes good basketball players, but he makes great all around young men. Character is his #1 concern along with academics just like his fellow former assistance and current VCU head coach, Will Wade. Radford as an University though? I won't comment because like you HR6, I really don't have much use for the school, having gone there for a semester. That's just my opinion with no shade being thrown at anyone. Holland will be in great hands with Coach Jones and should play right away.

Congrats to Martinsville. They were the best team DR faced this year and congrats to them. Three years in a row that the 2A state champion has been from the Piedmont/Old Piedmont district schools (Dan River - 2014, Martinsville 2015-2016).

Good luck to Holland at Radford, as well as Dandridge and Carter at Bluefield St. I know we battle and there's been some back and forth talk, but I do respect their team and what their program has been for VHSL basketball. With 15 State basketball titles, the Bulldogs are one of, if not the top, blue bloods of boys basketball.

Your opinion certainly had shade whether you intend it to or not. Y'all can't be up here dissing my alma-mater! Business school is one of the best in the state and Radford has been producing elite level teachers for decades, including yours truly. You and HR need to put that haterade down. Just because Radford knew how to party better than most other colleges, doesn't mean that's all we did. Please don't take any of these comments serious, all fun and games here!

Lol I love it!! You're correct, Radford has an outstanding education program and business program (though VCU's is better :) lol ) but I guess it's just the haterade I'm sipping on cause Raddy is the best party destination lol..Glad our basketball team spanked y'all this year lol on a real note, I think RU should have gotten a bid to the NIT. Beat Georgetown, Penn State, UNCW, Asheville (twice) and gave my VCU Rams a good scare. All love here!

Not to make it a political conversation but that's why I have a problem with RU..Preach diversity, get a black president, then invite someone who "REPRESENTS" clash with those principles lol????? I'm 22, I was just a student there 3 years ago. I wasn't bashing their education because it's a good school..As a young black male, I just have my concerns about the young people, especially other young black males like myself. Like I said, I know Holland will be alright as long as he has Coach Jones. He has a great basketball body and a very good skill set. Jones will get him in better shape and improve his leaping ability. He'll be a better basketball player and on top of that, a better man at the end of his playing career there. And Holland had offers from JMU, Coastal, and a few others. Right choice at the end of the day as long as he focuses on his school work and basketball.

Per Groucho Marx, I can not respect a school that would accept me as a student...which they did way back in the 80's:D. Thank goodness the Thundering Herd was just as bad!

Anyway, congratulations to Martinsville. They really closed the season with an exclamation point.

Brooks had a great weekend, led the Lady Dukes to a 3rd consecutive CAA title and his daughters won the 3A state title with Spotswood.

Ever heard of free speech? You don't like him, don't go to his events.

Who said I went to his events? I didn't say he isn't allowed to speak his mind. I didn't say I went to his events so what are you looking for from me with your reply? I simply said RU lost some of my respect for hosting him, that's my free speech. Your reply tells me all I need to know about your stance on the man, which is fine I might add.

Trump, Sanders or whoever does not matter to me. Radford is an institution of higher learning and should allow voices of differing opinions to be exposed to the students. In today's academic world, diversity of political opinion is vanishing. Kudos to Radford for bucking the trend.

BTW...my choice dropped out long ago and went back to Wisconsin

But when you have a growing black student population and constantly preaching "diversity" and then goes as far as making a black man your school president, then why bring in something that totally undermines all of that in the eyes of students? Trump can go where he wants, hell go to Dublin or one of the surrounding areas, but that wasn't a good look for Radford. One of the reasons I left Radford was because of the lack of diversity and the racial tension between the black and white students. It's REAL.... I'm sure I'll get reported on this board for being off topic but *shrugs*...

Want a little cheese with that whine? I am a middle aged black man who is tired of all the "world owes me something" attitude of this generation. If you give up and run every time someone hurts your feelings and sensibilities, you will always be a "victim". Make your own way in this world and stop looking for excuses to fail.

Congratulations to the Bulldogs.

I can respect that. That should have been your initial reply rather than...

I'm not a fan of politics. Puppets who tell you what you want to hear, play both sides of the fence all while smiling at you. So I'll see myself out of this debate.

Actually guys, you did a pretty good job of discussing politics without getting overly vicious and making the attacks personal. Good job. Sports arguments pale in comparison to discussions about race, religion, and politics!

One of the best political arguments I ever recall hearing is as follows:

"I will fight to the death to defend your right to burn the American flag, and I promise to punch you right in the mouth if you do".

Again, dissing someone's program just because one disagrees with the "politics" of the administration hurts not only the students but the rest of the school's programs as well. How about we leave the argument for "diversity" - and isn't that what Holland will bring to the program??? - for another day and just celebrate the fact that a student-athlete will get an education at a good school?

I just read this and let me say that I attended a Trump Rally when he came to Richmond International Raceway last semester. I agree with you 200% on institutions needing to hear diverse opinions and you won't find another 22 year old black man who understands and agrees with the above statements in which you made more than I do. With me knowing probably around 35% of the student body at RU (including 90% of the black student body), my reactions to this was based a lot on them and also myself for reasons that are not appropriate for this "sports" board.

I missed the memo.. Nobody dissed any school. Congrats to Holland. I think everyone on this thread is very happy for him.

I believe you do need to learn to read. There were several threads here that "pooh-poohed" RU's athletic programs and decried the "lack of diversity" in the RU athletic administration. Is that not "dissing" or did I miss that memo?

Holland is from Martinsville which, by VSHL standards, is a small school. He will be much happier at RU than he would be at VCU. He will also be 90 minutes closer to his family who will be spared the financial expense of travel to and from Richmond to watch him play at VCU and can provide some emotional support when "things" get a little rough up in the mountains.

Is that exactly what I said about their athletic department? I recall praising their basketball coach and talking about the overall university (not the athletic department) because I went there 4 semester's ago, I know more people there than I know at my current school, and I keep up the current events happening at the institution.. Nothing of what I said is dissing the school, just stuff that I know for sure, with no speculation. Have a good day and I hope Holland does well for himself.

Nothing really wrong, just do not like JMU, VCU, Radford, Richmond, Longwood or UVA. Only 2 schools in the state I like are Virginia Tech and Liberty University.

I know too many people who went to the schools I don't like, thus I refrain from posting most reasons. But I will say I dislike every school in the CAA. I do not like VCU because the VHSL moved the state basketball tournament there. I do not like Longwood because they whined for years to get into Big South Conference, thus watering it down because they do not have football. Only good thing about UVA is their baseball program and Medical Center. I just do not like Radford.

VCU, JMU, University of Henrico, Tech, UVA and Liberty are all GREAT schools also. Radford is too if you're not in the wrong crowds but honestly that's anywhere Raddy has the best education program in VA and nursing. I'd prefer VCU's med school over WhoVA's tho :) and our baseball team beat the Cavs both times this year! 6 straight trips to the NCAA basketball tournament also lol...Go Rams!!

Lol!!! VCU didn't offer him. VCU has a top 30 recruiting class this year/ top 12 class when Shaka was here. VCU goes for players that fits their system. Defensive minded, polished athletes..This kid needs a lot of work as I said in previous threads. I wish him nothing but the best but let's be reasonable.

What's wrong with my alma mater - James Madison University? I'm not made at you - HR6! LOL!

My only problem would be that they are still FCS - Division 1AA, whatever it's called now! (but what conference would we go into to be FBS).

Great renovations to the football stadium and an outstanding softball and baseball complex at the former Harrisonburg High School site. I can't wait until renovations start on the Convocation Center.

The #1 reason I not like them, is a softball player rejected an offer from Virginia Tech to sign with JMU. This player could have had a huge impact at VT.

I never said anything about VCU offering or not offering him a scholarship. And, yes, he does need a lot of work but what 18-year-old from a small city/town doesn't? Most HS coaches don't take time to improve a player's skills or fundamentals beyond what the coach sees as needed for his/her team. AAU coaches don't work on fundamentals or skills at all - despite what they will tell you first-hand, all they care about is the athletic ability an athlete has when he steps on the floor.

I was speaking on your quote in which you stated he would be happier at RU than VCU. A chance to go to the NBA, NCAA's every year, national exposure and spotlight year in and year out, and arguably one of the biggest college basketball fan bases (80+ consecutive sellout also) .. Let's be reasonable. If VCU would have offered him I bet you all of my scholarship money that he would have committed that moment. UVA, Tech, and VCU has walk-ons every year that could very well play mid-major ball but they pass that up to get the national exposure.
