Congratulations to Union on a hard fought victory today. If you get to Salem I will be there rooting for you guys. To my Highlanders we came up a couple of yards short on the field but we had another great season and you represented your team/community with class and gave all you had right down to the end. To the seniors, you've paved the way and showed all the future Highlanders how it is done right. To the coaches thank you for your sacrifice and hard work for these young men and the community. You are all truly amazing and are building more than a football program..you're building men.

Hey Rewards, why the two point try at the end. It appears Glenvar was wearing them down and I would have took my chances in OT.

Congrats to Union on a big win today and also to Glenvar on a good season. It must have been one heck of a football game !
Now the Blues just need to pull our game out !

I would assume its because the field goal kicking was extremely shaky for the Highlanders. They missed one XPT and the kickoffs did not travel far at all. I would assume he did not want to put the game in the hands of the kicker, especially when the offense was moving like it was.

Itra, I was trying to explain before the game about Union's weapons, if you were there today you saw what I was trying to say. Noaks scored a TD, Mitchell threw a 2PT conversion pass, played elite level defense and caught a couple first downs, Gavin had some huge plays, Barnett (the chopblock on him was bad, I don't want to say anyone intentionally injured someone at all but it was a regretable play and an avoidable one and the play likely ended Barnett's season in football and basketball) made a couple huge catches and played great defense, Spears played maybe his best game of the season, only one bad throw, no INTs, and the 70 yard TD scamper.Union is a team that spreads the offense around, and it showed again today.

Union scored more points on Glenvar than anyone has this year IIRC, did Giles score 28 points in two games?

The Highlanders were very tough at the LOS, Union struggled to stop them at the LOS and did a great job on offense attacking the weaker unit on the outside. Manns was a beast, he was a little guy but he played huge.

No but they held Glenvar to under 20 points both games. What was the deal on the injured player? I'm not saying it was because I was not there but the announcer who seemed to call a fair game said it was very cheap and dirty. Once again I'm not saying it was, just repeating what I heard on radio.

It was a chop block on the starting TE/LB, and it was a pretty egregious and unnecessary play. Union was struggling to stop the run, there was no need to go low like that, but I did not see the entire play from start to finish, I just caught the very end of it and it looked pretty bad.

Hope he is ok, hate to hear that

Give credit to Union on stopping the 2 point with everything on the line. I am not going to second guess coach Clifford at all. He has earned my respect with the play calling and he thought they could get it obviously..Maybe he sensed he had Union on their heels like you said and would rather take his chances there rather than ot. I am very proud we came back at the end. That shows the resilience of this team for the past 2 years.

You might be right...but a shaky kicker might be another reason.....he went for 2 against giles in a similar situation....you can say you won't second guess it but as fans we all do and you will as well....good game....good comeback and heart...all u can ask for

ghs89er...I'm not going to second guess, lay blame, or make excuses...I've learned not to do that and life is better thinking that way..last year went our way on the tight games..today we were a couple of yards short. Thinking about the ifs and buts drives us all nuts and just causes sleepness nights and heartache. Just grateful for our boys, their coaches and the great season. Also thankful for the good friends I got to enjoy it with, and the good people on here like you I've been able to chat with even though you and I haven't seen eye to eye at times. I feel very good about our year and our prospects going forward.

I hope Barnett is ok and was very sorry to see him injured. Wishing him a speedy recovery and hope to see him play at Salem stadium. I can say with confidence our boys wouldn't intentionally try to hurt a player. As for the game, I thought Union has the best short passing game we have seen all year and we didn't defend it well in the first half.

"I can say with confidence our boys wouldn't intentionally try to hurt a player."

I saw a Clarke player intentionally hit a Millbrook player in the crotch. Tell your boys to stay disciplined. Clarke will talk trash and straddle that line of dirty. The coaches will talk smack if your players end up on their sideline. They look to egg you on. Multiple unsportsmanlike like penalties this year, player ejection (missed the following week).
Stay disciplined is all I can say.

If you can do it you're a better man than I my good man....but it was a hell of a run....and that's the same thing I said last year when you guys took us out....nothing to hang your heads about....the older I get the easier it is to let it go...but I'm just the guy that never forgets and what ifs......I didn't have a dog in the fight but seemed like you had the momentum and if I were in that situation as a coach I probably would have kicked it....and it's one of those things we will never know how it woulda coulda shoulda turned out...hindsight is 2020 I guess....but I second guess everything not just football...

Not sure how many Glenvar folks on here watched the game today, but I hope everyone had safe travels to and from the game and enjoyed their stay in BSG.

Heck of a game today between two solid programs. VERY early reports indicate that Barnett will play next week, but may require surgery after the season. I'm sure he will find out for certain this week.

Union's coaches obviously had much respect for Glenvar's D-Line. Didn't even attempt to establish a RB running game. Just passes and QB keepers. Our QB hasn't run that much all year, but he was outstanding. I think we caught the Highlanders off guard a little with a O play calling in the 1st half, and that enabled us to get a quick 21 points. Which was extremely important because we only got 7 in the 2nd half.

Assuming this coward never played a down in his life... Sorry your sour grapes with Clarke being the only area team remaining in the playoffs cause you to be bitter and throw jabs against folks that won't respond. Bet you feel Millbrook dominated the game against Clarke. Tickets are $7 if you want to come watch. Be sure to stand on the Union sideline. Get a life, loser...

No rooting interest in the game but I have seen our coach go for two and the win instead of the tie. On the road that's the call, at home you tie and live to play another series. Clifford made the right call, Union just made the stop. Sometimes you make that play other times you don't. Great season by Glenvar and good luck to Union as they face a solid Clarke team.

I can understand going for 2 if the other team has the momentum or you know you probably can't stop their run game in ot....otherwise the smart move is to play the percentages. ..from what I could tell glenvar had the momentum and was actually running the ball better at the time....hindsight and second guessing is easy to do....we will never know what might have happened....we do know what did happen....I my opinion you kick that ball....your team just overcame and are back in the game with a minute to go....they are dead even as soon as the kick clears the uprights and have stopped the bears for the last several drives.....lots of factors...gotta get a good kickoff and stop the return but after that it probably goes to overtime and from what I was hearing glenvar had the advantage...but we will never know...glenvar made the same call against giles with the difference being there was a bit more time and giles was gassed....a first down or two and that game might ended with the same question. ...but it was a great stop by union and a great game....we all have opinions...mine is he should have kicked it...got a friend who says you always go for 2 late and the win...it's over and it is what it is

Oh come on now, wouldn't you think I would be pulling for Clarke in order to prop up Millbrooks accomplishment of beating them? No sour grapes here, just have friends in Clarke with inside knowledge to go along with what I've witnessed. It's been refreshing reading up on the culture of the remaining schools. I just so happen to know the Clarke County culture AND have witnessed incidents first hand.

BTW, noticed the band didn't make it out to the game again. Clarke also has bleachers behind an end zone for a loud crowd that is never occupied.

The end zone bleachers were put out for a specific game earlier in season and used for that one game, they aren't intended for general use as they are inside the fence line surrounding the playing field.

You obviously don't know too many "insiders" if you don't understand the band season and bleacher situations.

Your Clarke County culture comment is puzzling. Do you realize that Erick Green came to CCHS when the girls basketball team was doing so well last year? And why do so many Frederick County kids (including Erick) come to play little league football in Clarke County? Can you also explain why travel softball teams from Winchester/Frederick County come recruit kids from Clarke County?

With your negativity, we don't need you "pulling" for CC. You are only trying to pull them down.

I don't think our Millbrook kid who got hit in the crotch will be pulling for Clarke.

I don't think the kid from RE Lee who had to be restrained after being called something derogatory after the game will be pulling for Clarke

I don't think the kid from William Monroe who was sucker punched causing the suspension of #55 for one week will be pulling for Clarke.

Even heard the Clarke twitter account took a shot at a kid from George Mason during their matchup last week.

I'm simply warning the Union players, administration, and fan base to be prepared. Stay composed.

Again, you are not pulling for Clarke when you post items like this. Did not realize you were on the field to know all these things you post. What's funny is you said "insiders" told you this before. Get your story straight and be sure to spew your mess over on the Union side of the stadium.

This simply amazes me. In the Frederick/Winchester/Clarke area "most" of the kids get along and are friends with one another and they pull for one another and wish each other luck in their games unless they are playing one another. The Clarke/Millbrook game in week 2 was a classic by 2 really good teams. Game was full of energy as it should be from 2 schools that are 7 miles apart. One happens to be 4A and the other 2A. IF, I recall there were a couple unsportsmanlike like calls on both teams! Those kids have all played in the same rec/travel programs going up for all sports. Clarke never had a kid ejected for a punch thrown or fighting vs. William Monroe as that is a total fabrication from your "insider". Language was used by both players and second guy got popped. Which is usually the case. Unsportsmanlike call--the first personal foul was a late hit after a INT and the kid was tripping over his own feet to make a tackle and fell on him late. 2 personal fouls = ejection for 1 game. IF it would have been a fight or punch thrown it would have been 2 games. For you to even put his number on this forum is trolling and really speaks for which you are trying to do. As for Friday night vs. Lee, I will not comment other than saying I was standing by fence and watched the entire thing as Lee was exiting the field and you missed quite a bit of the story. However, I will not be a "troll" on these boards and make disparaging comments about any school or what actually happened and witnessed by many.
Please do not get on these forums and be a "keyboard hero" and try to disparage kids/coaches/communities from Clarke/Millbrook or any other school as that is not warranted. As it totally takes away the original concept of this forum.
I totally commend the fans in SWVA for their great turnout and their passion for the game. People up in this neck of the woods would rather bash others than support.
Congrats to players/coaches/fans of Clarke, Union, Appomattox, and Buffalo Gap on a great accomplishment making to the final 4.
Lastly, I hope that any threads that begin on the state semi-finals can stay on topic of the actual game and the kids playing in it and not hidden agendas by some.

Safe travels to all and good luck to all 4 teams!

I know for one, that I appreciate the opinions of an account that is 4 days old and has 7 posts all with negative opinions of a neighboring high school. I'm just glad that you can donate some of your valuable free time to posting rumors, hearsay, and outright false information to a thread that does not include your school.

There seems to be a lot of explaining!

On a football note I expect a low scoring smash-mouth Union vs Clarke game, 12-6 score either way and a 34-7 Appomattox win.

Union seems to have a strong kicking game? Field position could determine that outcome.

Appomattox defense is the real story of this postseason, IMO.

Havent seen much of Union to predicting them to score only one TD. The Bears scored 21 points in the first half against Glenvar, arguably the best defense in 2A. Again, Clarke will win, but they will have to score points to do it if they weather is nice.
