Parry McCluer Track & Field Shot-Put Throwers, Senior KJ Cook, Junior Joshua Fischer and Senior Jeremy Nelson seal the top three spots at the combined 1A - 2A Western Regionals Indoor Track Event on Sunday, February 12th at Heritage High School in Lynchburg, Va.
Cook took the 1st Place spot with another "PERSONAL BEST" throw of 55' -2" on his second throw of the day.. That heave notches his spot for the PMHS School Record in the Indoor event, and with one more Indoor competition (STATES) left to be held @ Roanoke College next Wednesday, February 22, it gives him a little motivation going in to finish out the Indoor season with and even better mark and sets the pace for the upcoming Outdoor session in which COOK, FISCHER and NELSON will all compete in the Outdoor Shot and Discus events...
Fischer, using Cook as his motivation again sealed the second Place spot with another "PERSONAL BEST" throw of 51' -10" on his 2nd throw of the finals also giving him the extra boost to compete well at next weeks STATE meet.. No doubt he has Cook in his sights and with the Outdoor session quickly approaching, it is definitely going to be an interesting spring as Fischer, a Jr. is well aware that he still has another year to compete in both the Indoor and Outdoor events..
Nelson notched the third Place spot with his first throw of the day with a heave of 47' - 1 1/2", a little off of his personal best .. Nelson has struggled a some lately with his timing but will no doubt be competitive in next weeks meet as well the upcoming Outdoor session.
The three PM Throwers really use each other to motivate and propel them in their performances.. They have a great coaching staff to aid them as well as the fact that all three work extremely hard in the weight room and in practice. These three kids really enjoy putting in the time and work. So much so that it gets to be a more of a "meet like environment" competition rather than practice but that's what makes them as good as they are!! Stay tuned folks, it's about to get "Turnt Up" in here!
