Saw and article in the paper the other day about these 2 school consolidating? Anyone heard if that's a definite or just rumors bouncing around. IF they did would they be 3A or 2A; not sure of each school numbers but should be pretty good athletically either way.

If this does happen, it would be a great idea. There are some wonderful people in that area, but Covington High School, meaning the building itself, is sooooooooo old and depressing. So hopefully they would either build a brand new school or move to Alleghany, which at least appears to be the better choice in terms of facility.

Covington is currently 1 A and Alleghany is currently 3A I believe so together they would have roughly 1,050 or so students which would make them a large 3A school, near the bump up to 4A depending on other school numbers and cut-lines in the future

Alleghany drops to Class 2, beginning this fall. According to the enrollment numbers in the high school football preview in the Roanoke Times, Alleghany has 700 students, while Covington has 280. So 980 combined, which would be eighth out of seventeen in Class 3 Region C, or ninth out of thirteen in Class 3 Region D.

Those enrollment numbers in the paper are March 31 ADM, BTW.
