The VHSL state cross country championships for Classes 1, 2, and 3 were held on Saturday, November 16, at Green Hill Park in Salem. In the Class 2 boys race, the Union Bears roared to the team title, scoring 54 points to runner-up Strasburg’s 78; third-place Radford was another point back. The Individual title was won by George Austin III of East Rockingham.
In the Class 2 girls race, the Bobcats of Radford claimed the champion’s trophy, 50-87 over Three Rivers District rival Glenvar. Madison County finished third. Virginia High’s Kelsey Harrington torched the field, crossing the finish line two-and-a-half minutes ahead of the nearest competitor.
