It has been learned that Dinwiddie and Salem have agreed to a home/away series stating with the 2017-2018 school year. Salem will host the first game.

This is an exciting match up that both schools have looked forward to for several years. And finally, the Stars have aligned.

Dinwiddie has also agreed to continue to to face off with James Monroe. Smithfield will fill out the non district schedule.

If true this is a very good matchup for both schools.

Me too. I look forward to our fans enjoying Salem Stadium. It is one heck of a venue for football.

And, as I have said several times, Salem's band keeps you in your seat at half time.

Just as many schools are, Dinwiddie is a gracious host to visiting teams. As hard core as the fans can be, they seem to never forget the big picture of setting an example that our kids can be proud of.

So let me be the first to say, "welcome Spartan fans". I know it's nearly 30 months before your visit to Dinwiddie, but we look forward to having you as our guest.

A little more info on Dinwiddie. The Generals will be traveling to Lord Botetourt for the first scrimmage of this upcoming season. Bluefield WV will also be participating.

Dinwiddie is scheduled to host LC Bird for the second scrimmage. Henrico was the third participant last year, but I have no information concerning their participation this year.

I have not watched a halftime band performance at the HS level, ever. It's even bad from the parking lot. And I still think cheerleading is pure sexual exploitation.

But From a Football standpoint, I like the schedule for both squads. Great for the game and the league.

I likely won't be able to come to Dinwiddie to see the matchup, but I greatly anticipate seeing the Generals play at Salem Stadium in about 17 months! I'm glad Salem got out of their local "comfort zone" and scheduled a team from out of the area that is a great challenge. I look forward to seeing my friends DinwiddieProud, BleedingNavy, and Jamie for the big game. I wouldn't mind seeing a Salem/Dinwiddie matchup for all the marbles this year either. Is it football time yet?!!

Come on Shaunty, lighten up a bit. The kids in band, flag corps, etc., and cheerleaders work just as hard at their chosen endeavors as football players. The whole enchilada is necessary to help provide a positive learning envioroment for the kids.

Only a woman talks this way. I know this is not true and I like many of your posts but you just ain't right. The "flag corps"? "positive learning environment"? C'Mon Man.

Dinwiddie Proud is telling the truth. I was eating lunch with DP when we received the face to face news. I didnt know a steak and cheese could taste so darn good. The thought of the Mags and Mills chess match is as intriguing as the totally different offensive philosophies. Talked about this game with a former Salem player for an hour yesterday. Thought we were going to line up and settle it on the spot. Oh heck yeah!

Exactly! But that point is lost on Shaunty.
We're having a similar disagreement on the Salem Football Fans Facebook page. Someone posted Congratulations to the Forensic's team on winning their 11th straight state championship. (not sports I know) With close to 1,100 members the page has become more of a community page and I thought the sentiments were well warranted. We should always be proud of those kids accomplishments no matter what they are in. These guys will grow up to be leaders in our communities, so we want the best and brightest!

What the forensics team has been able to do is really mind blowing.

I agree fully, Mike. We all enjoy the football talk, but I like to believe that at the core of that enjoyment is seeing our kids being successful. You will never here me complain when someone takes a minute to acknowledge the acomplishments of the kids, no matter what their endeavor.

For that matter, I enjoy when someone offers a tidbit of non football related info. For instance, the news just said that the Richmond Flying Squirrels played the Harford Yard Goats today. Who on God's green earth would name a baseball team "The Yard Goats"?

And by the way, 11 straight championships in anything is unbelievable. Congratulations to those kids, but especially to the teachers/sponsors.
I do like this because I'm a major NCIS and Abbey fan but how many schools actually have a forensics team?

Don't get me wrong. I really love this out of the box idea from an educational standpoint. It taps so many fields of study, you can't go wrong. It's the way education should be. For example, in my Junior HS year, Physics class was to seek the answer to one question, "What is light"? But, again, how many schools actually have a forensics team?

That's not this type of forensics. This is speaking forensics. They write speeches and give their speeches at competition. The speeches range from humerous to political. There is also an improv catagory.

Thanks. I did not know there was more than one application for the term forensics. Mom has always been right about this. Everyday should be a learning experience.

n.(used with a sing. verb)
1. The art or study of formal debate; argumentation.
2. The use of science and technology to investigate and establish facts in criminal or civil courtsof law.

I think most schools just call this debate team, which everyone seems to have. But I like the "forensics" name that seems to expand the possible formats for competition. I'll have to check this out a bit more. Thanks again. A cute FYI. The VHSL started as an organizer of debate competitions.

There is a difference between debate and forensics. In forensics you're judged on the basis of you're speech and also the delivery. While debate is about arguing a point, and is judged by how well a point is argued. Salem has both a debate and forensics team.

I would. It's so obscurely cool!
