USA TODAY High School Sports:

Virginia high school football player allegedly sexually assaulted in locker room. By Logan Newman, USA TODAY High School Sports | 5:20 pm

A high school football player is believed to have been sexually assaulted by teammates in the locker room, according to the Loudoun Times-Mirror.

Players on the Tuscarora High School (Va.) team allegedly held down the teammate while they “inserted objects into the victim” after practice on Oct. 1, the Times-Mirror wrote.

Practice was cancelled Sunday and Monday but resumed on Tuesday. The game on Friday is expected to be played.

The Loudoun County Public Schools released a statement Wednesday to the Times-Mirror that said the district found out about the incident on Oct. 5.

It also said LCPS is prohibited “from revealing disciplinary consequences involving students” and that the Leesburg Police Department has not decided which charges, if any, should be brought forward.

Says a lot about the AD there that this team is still practicing/playing...

Truly despicable. The coach spoke so eloquently after the state championship about his team and program. Yet you have a kid violated and potentially scarred for life but practice as usual Tuesday???

The AD should be fired just for treating this so lightly! Either they believe it didn't happen or they should shut down the program.

It's just bizarre that the article didn't start off with stating that arrests have been made against the players!

This is all indicative of a culture at THS where students think their actions have no consequences. They are being proven correct by the choice to continue the football season & no adults being held accountable for encouraging the culture at the school.

You know nothing about the culture of the Tuscarora football program or of the character of the coaches and players. If this disgusting and vile act repulses you, multiply that by a million then you would come close to what the THS football community feels. The victim is still on the team and has not missed a day of school or practice. He feels safe with his brothers and coaches and will tell you he will not let the evil of a few to define him. He and his parents know what we are about. I cannot expect you to understand what we are about and I don’t care if you do or not. We know who we are. That young man knows what we are about. Funny how nobody has asked him if the culture brought this evil upon him. If the coaches brought this evil upon him. Judge all you want from your computer keyboard. Your opinion of a the program, the coaches, and the administration at Tuscarora is the complete opposite of how this young man and his family feel. In this horrible moment; their opinion is all that matters to us.

Not trying to pile onto the victim here, so let’s make that clear. Glad the kid is doing well after such a horrific incident.

Still doesn’t change my mind about the athletic director & administrators at the school. I have interacted with all of them. I stand by what I said.

Who have you interacted with? What are your personal experiences? You can name them and explain why you feel that the culture and leadership of Tuscarora has created a fertile field for abuse and evil deeds.

1st of alln I

This is great for the victim, staying on the team and not missing practice. I hope he's able to heal physically and mentally!
My question is: What about the assailant? Where is he or they? Are they still on the team, still in the school, and out of jail?

They are not on the team. They are not in school. That is the one thing keeping them safe from the other 67 people who have their brothers back. Alumni have driven back from college to “handle” the assailants (which of course coaches have discouraged from those currently on the team and those that have been). The community is in pain for this strong young man. Protesters will be at the game tomorrow and wherever we go from this point forward we will see and hear nothing but hateful words that will only further injure the victim as the LTM mirror and social media have. We know who we are. He knows who we are. We cannot put the assailants in jail and law enforcement and due process must be respected.

That is a great thing with all 67 and everybody's support! Ghat is the most anybody can do for this young man! I support him! I support Tuscarora for doing the right thing. I do hope that the assailant(s) have a court date and will be tried for the crime! Make no mistake....a very serious crime!

Not going to play this game with you. I have worked with the AD in the past, as well as the principal. I’ve seen the way these people go to great lengths to gloss over serious issues.

It’s good to hear the assailant is under pressure from the community, but it’s equally surprising (almost unbelievable) to hear that no one else could have helped prevent the assault, including coaches or other teammates.

I will say I do not know the details & perhaps it was completely one-on-one with no adult responsible for having a presence at that time. My past experiences with the AD lead me to believe they are more interested in keeping the season alive than doing the right thing.

You are typical of why your opinion and opinions of those like you mean nothing to Tuscarora H.S. I have given you the opportunity to explain why you feel that the AD and ALL of administrators have created a culture that allowed this to happen. The AD and ALL of the administrators will be at the game tomorrow at Freedom HS in South Riding. Get in your car like all of the Real Housewives Of Loudoun County plan on doing. You can express yourself to them personally so that your voice can be heard. Or you can just continue to type on a HS message board.

I’ll probably just keep typing. My opinion about Tallent is my opinion. Sorry if it makes you irate.

I sat back and didn't interject in the back and forth but to be completely honest, nothing you said mentioned accountability, honor or integrity. Saying "alumni" are going to take care of those responsible sounds like"revenge", quite narrow minded and speaks to what happened and why.

So in all that I posted you drew that Tuscarora's Coaches and its Administration have not taken accountability, have exhibited no honor, and lack integrity? Its players and alumni are intent on taking revenge? The survivor and his family don't agree with you. That is all that matters to us. As I told the other person.....I don't expect you to know who we are. Why this happened is not a reflection of the culture that exists at THS. It is a reflection of the existence of evil in this world. Our kids have now seen what evil looks like first hand and are more ready to confront and defeat it when it appears again. Our coaches and our administration will be more diligent and introspective in everyday moving forward. If you believe that a culture was in place that allowed for this horrific event to occur than you know nothing about this program. This young man, his family, his teammates, his coaches, and the community are hurting for him. We know who we are.

Again, this will be the last you and I discuss this matter. Everything you keep saying is defensive and instead of taking ownership you blame "outsiders" for not knowing anything about "Tuscarora" football. What kind of learning can 14,15,16 and 17 year old kids learn about the severity of this issue in 2 weeks(Since Oct. 1) sounds like Tuscarora wants to bury this(as a way to cope) Of course the family wants this dark cloud lifted and will attempt to deal by moving on business as usual. AGAIN, sorry for this kid and pray he gets the proper help for proper closure.

We defend the young man and his family. We defend the people who are part of our program and the beliefs that make our program unique. I blame evil for this event. I blame the perpetrators for this. If you think no learning, coaching, or teaching has been done since the moment this event is happened you are wrong. That’s what our profession is all about. That is what our program is all about. Anyone of the adults that IS RESPONSIBLE for the safety and well being of these kids would take the pain away from this young man if they could. All we can do is learn and teach from it. If burying this issue was the priority I would not be discussing this issue with anyone on a message board.

If you don't know Tallent don't make assumptions, I have talked to him numerous times and the kids on his teams or in his classrooms are priority #1, and to say he just tries to smooth things over is way out of line.

It seems we have had different experiences.

We should all avoid a rush to judgement. I know from experience that media portrayal or reporting of events is not always 100% accurate. To condemn an entire program without knowing all of the details is not right in my opinion. I have no more knowledge of what happened than what was printed in the article, but it seems some of you feel like this was a team event with participation or awareness of what was happening by all or most of the team. I am aware of a highly publicized event last year that was treated similarly and most of the team was on the field at the time and unaware of what was going on in the locker room. IMO unless a significant portion of the team was involved or at least aware of what was happening, I don't think it is right to punish an entire team, coaching staff, and school community for the sins of a few. I hope the police and school administration can quickly determine who/what/when/how and punish appropriately those involved. I know that it's frustrating that schools do not share information on investigation details and student punishments, but that is what it is. And more importantly, I hope the victim gets the help and support that he needs to move forward successfully with the rest of his life.

The coach last year left. This years coach is a first year head coach

Having seen how this team conducts itself on game night the last two years, I have nothing but respect for their program. Their players and coaches were class acts before, during, and after the games. I would be shocked if this wasn't an isolated incident by one or a few "bad apples".

If this is anything like what happened at Spotsylvania a few years back, then the principal, athletic director, and the head coach should all be gone at a very minimum.

Yes. I have looked at before and after rosters, and could guess who the culprits are, but I would not announce them even if I was sure.
