Down to 4 Contest update

It has been decided by the VHSL that in Class 4, Semifinal pairings are Region D champion v. Region A champion and Region B champion v. Region C champion. So for our pre season contest we need to update our pairings to reflect those changes.

Note- the only changes you can make are in regards to the change with Region matchups. You will not be able to change the 4 teams you selected in Class 4, you will only be able to change the asterisk * position. For example, my picks were:


A Phoebus
B Dinwiddie*

C Tuscarora
D Salem**


My updated matchups would be as follows:

Updates need to be made by the 11 contestants before Friday November 15th. Use the schedule to see which teams are in each Region. The new pairings are Region D champion v Region A champion and Region B champion v Region C champion.

In my opinion, a much better finals!

As much as I’d like to put Salem as Region D champs realistically I need to see more out of the defense. I’m not sure the Spartans can beat JF or GW. Now if the defense shows out again against better opponents in Christiansburg and Blacksburg I will feel much better. Just my take.

It's always a guessing game when you make your picks pre-season before the first snap - I was going strictly on tradition and last year's season for Salem.

I still think they have a legitimate chance to make it back, despite the bumps in the road this year.

I’m torn between GW or JF for D. Both teams seem like they have a legit shot at this point and it’s hard to pick one. These are my picks for right now. By the end of the season, if the Salem defense continues to play solid, I will move Salem into the Region D winner. I’m just calling it like I see it at this point.

The Spartan team has a good enough offense and enough offensive weapons and fire power to make it to the semi final game. However, the defense needs to keep playing lights out for the rest of the season. It’s a team game and both sides of the ball need to be playing superb in the playoffs to make it to the semifinals. Especially with how good these teams are in 4D this year. I doubt the Spartans will beat Phoebus in the semis. They likely will not get that done. However, if the team as a whole is playing up the way I know they are capable of playing by the end of the regular season then I think they have a legit chance to make it to semis.

As far as C6 goes it looks like the Semifinal matchups will go back to the A/B and C/D format.

As far as the Hayfield situation goes, I don't believe it's fair to the players of the contest who chose other teams in Reg C preseseason to have everyone who did pick Hayfield be allowed to pick another team now. They were determined to have been cheating the rules and they aren't eligible for the playoffs. For the purposes of the game, it's my opinion that we should stick with our original picks. If everyone picked Hayfield I could see making an exception, but to keep it fair it's a preseason contest.
