I personally am ALL wrapped up in March Madness and will be until it ends, so baseball will have to do without me until then, but I have read in the local paper that our Shenandoah teams have at least tried to brave the weather and get the season started.
So with that in mind, I can report that so far Riverheads has beaten R E Lee 5-3 and East Rockingham has also knocked them off by an almost identical 6-3 score. So even though both were non-district games, I suppose that puts RHS and ER in a better position already than the Leemen for Conference 36 purposes, even though it is of course quite early.
Riverheads returns a solid pitching staff from last year but I was worried about them losing a pretty fair amount of hitting power. But I think I read that both the Gladiators and the Eagles touched Lee for 10 hits in those two games. So maybe they will be OK after all at the plate.
Will report more once the weather warms up and basketball is finally over.
