In what could and very well should be the 1D game of the year the Spartans of Eastside travel to face the War Eagles of Rye Cove tonight. Both teams are undefeated coming into this one, so unfortunately someone is going home with their first loss of the year, which could quite possibly be the only loss one of these teams will have before playoff time.
Eastside has pulled off three straight shut out wins and as a team are only allowing 6.6 points per game along with an offensive 32.4 points per game. Rye Cove on the other hand is averaging 50.2 points per game offensively and allowing 10.7 points per game defensively.
Eastside's defense will surely face it's toughest test yet though as Rye Cove's offense is really a 4 headed monster with Will Rollins, Landon Lane, and Carter Roach-Hodge all effective on the ground, and Landon Lane also dangerous as a passer. However, life will be no easier for the War Eagle defense as they face fullback Dayton Stanley who just lit up the JI Burton defense for 163 yards last week.
Rye Cove coming off both their lowest scoring game of the year and honestly, their poorest played game of the year will really have to step up to come away with a win tonight. The winner of this game will most likely end up the winner of the Cumberland District this year. Hopefully this one plays out as good on the field as it seems it will on paper.

The score in this one is very deceiving. This games was tooth and nail all the way up until the 4th Quarted when everything seemed to finally go the War Eagles way. The game, as expected, was a defensive slobber knocker. Neither team could really get anything going offensively. Both teams gave up a few nice plays, but would later buckle down and not give anything more. For Eastside #12 Keldan Hamilton was a true force to be reckoned with both on offense and defense. Hamilton made play after play defensively for the Spartans and it looked like he was all over the field. Pannell the QB for Eastside had some nice plays, but just did not have any time to make anything happen with the Rye Cove rush. For Rye Cove the majority of the scoring came from Carter Roach-Hodge. Roach-Hodge had 2 rushing touchdowns as well as a pick six in the waning minutes of the game. The biggest offensive play of the night came on a 4th down QB sneak by Landon Lane who popped out of the pile with a couple War Eagles around him and scampered roughly 50 yards for the score. The War Eagles are now 7-0 for the first time in school history and have two weeks before they return to The Nest to face Chilhowie. Eastside returns to action next Friday with another Cumberland District showdown at home against Twin Springs.
