Things I noticed: Over last 25 years Bird has made the elite eight 5 times per decade in years ending in 0-5. They have not accomplished that task ever in a year ending in 6-9 (it's coming up, Central Region folks).
All but one of Hermitage's elite 8 games have been against schools on a short stretch of route 10 in the heart of Chesterfield County.
I knew of the nearly annual match ups Stone Bridge had with Phoebus, wasn't aware they were dancing with Edison so often, also.
Massaponax has never lost an elite 8 game to anyone except district rival North Stafford
Salem can't play their often occurring rivals, Oscar Smith, realignment sent them to different classes.
This will be the first time Norview has played in an elite 8 in 28 years. Most of these kids' parents weren't even in high school. It's the first time EVER they've played anyone in the game besides Hampton.
Tuscarora is one of the favorites to win it all and top seed in the North, but this is their first ever elite 8 game.
With Bird and Hermitage being the only teams here that have clashed before in an elite 8 game, I also thought it was interesting to note that the two teams also met in the Sweet 16 the last two years, and that Hermitage was probably the best team in the Richmond area (besides Bird) those two years, but the quirks of seeding just had them clashing earlier in the playoffs. All of their games with each other have been truly awesome.
