Huge win for Essex and NND (and 1A) over an always tough and well coached Goochland squad. I think that is only the 2nd ever win for the Trojans over the Bulldogs (is that correct fellas?).
Game was 21-14 with Goochland winning at the top of the 4th quarter with Goochland driving and near or in red zone. Then Essex stops the Dogs with the big pic. That all important momentum swing....
A few plays later, Essex scores on a sweet 65 yard TD sprint down sideline by star Malik Martin. Essex goes for two and makes it. Later Rasaun Monroe goes in for the insurance score. Essex 29-21.
Well, this result provides some evidence that this may definitely be the year of the Trojans. Unless the great Juan Thornhill comes back for another ring for Altavista (so he can start a collection on his other hand ha), it may be tough for the rest of 1A this season. Of course, you never know. Maybe some big surprises out there. That's why they play the game!
I would say that maybe the Trojans would get bored before the playoffs and lose their edge. However, due to some superb scheduling by Coach Fulks and his staff, that is doubtful. Essex has the most difficult non-district schedule in its history, then rival NND teams to get fired up for, then the playoffs begin....
