Enough of Phoebus tho…i want to make this a post we can look back on in 4 years. Who are some upcoming freshmen that will be making noise soon for yall favorite teams?

Derrikus Nelson at Dinwiddie may be the next big thing out of the 804. Has the potential to be as dominant as Harry Dalton. Coach Mills has a few more that’s going to be must see TV. The 804 is absolutely loaded for 2029 in hoops, looking forward to seeing how this class shapes up in football.

Definitely Derrikus, he is a man child! He has a chance to be very special. ZyRell Underdue as well I coached both of those guys I believe both have the talent to be in the upper echelon of athletes in the state

Another kid from Dinwiddie that you may want to keep your eye on is lineman Austin Wells. Started every game as a freshman last season. Good size, good grades, dedicated to getting stronger and better, he could quietly become a top D1 recruit.

Not sure how much physicality is allowed in practice these days, but there are some loyal soldiers out there who play two years of JV and two years of Varsity, play a handful of snaps all-together and get their tails kicked during the majority of time during game weeks and all of the time during the preseason. And they still show up to practice and are part of the team.

Ha-ha. Right now the Brd is race between Lafayette and Poquoson. Lafayette returns 22 with a few top transfers so they will be very experienced and I think significantly better this year. Last year the trademark power rushing wasn’t really there. It returns this year. This year the pressure will not be on to go 10-0 as Lafayette’s schedule will never out point the Phoebus schedule so as it gets later in the season keeping healthy is more important than a win. Pencil in the class 4, Region A final; Lafayette at Phoebus.

I know what you mean. Varina is getting the better kids from Fairfield, Rolfe, Elko and has some good football players around the county joining the specialty program that would to normally go to the Springs as freshmen.

IMO, Varina’s been winning the Easy End battle since Covid. Springs did get Kristian Martin ( Herm) and Henley (King William), but Varina has been loaded every single year with Keyes (Henrico), Eli Brown (Hopewell), Derricott (PH), Wells (Henrico), Breon Brown (Herm), Ant Fisher (Benedictine), etc.. Even beat out the Springs and Huguenot for this year’s class core of D1, Bray and Bull. With Fared out as Highland Springs JV coach, Varina will start dominating JV too.

I’m hearing the new VA rules apply on July 1. SC is adopting some stiffer rules too that are similar. NC has probably the biggest transfer market on the east coast which is insane. You got cats transferring from Wilmington to Charlotte and from Elizabeth City to Winston Salem. It’s insane.

To change the subject back.. Zion Boisseau went crazy down at VT this past weekend. UVA and VT better stop sleeping. They already let Harry get away.

I think a lot of people have written Huguenot off because of that Varina game last year. It’s ludicrous to me.. They were younger and almost beat a better Varina team a year prior. Think CJ Scott at QB full time will get them over the hump this fall. Huguenot has weapons everywhere and have amped up their linebacking core and secondary. I feel like because many don’t like Scott, they’re often judged a little more harshly on these boards. Huguenot will be legit. Gotta be more focused and stop the youth league junk.

If I had to rank this region today I’d go:

1. Varina. They bring back 3/4 of their starters from a state championship appearance and I still believe Bray Hood, Bull Richardson and J Boogie Walker lead the BEST front 7 in the state.
2. Dinwiddie. Could go Huguenot or Louisa but the schedule will have the County Boyz ready for late November. Zion Boisseau, Robert Pettway, JayC McDowell, Jordyn Williams, T Buford, Jeremiah Curley.. That defense is gonna be nasty. The offense has a lot of new faces but will catch up. Hope Josh Adams is ready for the start of camp.
3. Huguenot/Louisa. Both teams have elite playmakers but Dinwiddie and Varina will have beef up front and better defenses. I do believe Iveon Lewis (Huguenot) will put up record numbers and be hard to stop with Jhamari Cain on the other side. Think that could the best WR combo in the state.
5. Spotsy. Lunsford and his staff will win a lot of games. Think they’ll be state contenders in the next two years. They’re getting possibly the best QB prospect (class of 2030) in the state. They’ll have to teach Spotsy how to win, but they have the guys to do it. They’ll probably be the biggest team in the region. If their physicality catches up with their potential, I could see them challenging any of the top 4.
