Strength wise it is not strong as in years past. Lost Goochland, King George, Deep Run and James Monroe off of the schedule for various reasons. Was not for lack of trying as a 4A school who had agreed to play during the next cycle backed out and a lot of bigger schools don't want to play a 1A school where they don't have much to gain and more to lose. The 5 non district games next year are Sussex, Surry, 3A Thomas Jefferson, 2A King William and King and Queen plus the district schedule which is all 1A schools as well with W&L dropping down. Will be hard to top teams in the East in power points that play in districts with 2A and 3A schools but sometimes it is just hard to schedule bigger schools but anyone that knows Essex knows they have always scheduled tough and not backed down from anyone.

KQ has obviously been down for awhile but won't ever knock those kids over there and kudos to the guys who coach those young men as well. Would love to see them turn things around. Hopefully the coach there now will be there for the long haul. There is talent on that team and in that school. It won't happen overnight but they can turn the program around and I for one would love to see it. On a side note even though they are neighboring counties this is the first time I can remember in probably over 20 years that Essex and KQ have played each other in football.

As much as I like to see Essex play a super tough schedule maybe an "easier" schedule will allow the team to be less beat up and more confident going into the playoffs. I like to see that Essex is playing Sussex.

Hey Northern Neck area guys, I had to send two of my guys down toward Windmill Point twice in recent days. I had to laugh at them. They were pretty convinced that either the Indians were going to come out of the woods after them. Or, they were going to drive off of the edge of the earth.

I know that ever area has its drawbacks, but you folks live in a wonderful area. Cherish the farming and low density of the population. It is so much better of a life than many, many get to enjoy.

And best wishes to Essex and their new/old coach.
