According to this week's Chris Rose piece in the Rappahannock Times, Essex Football superstar Kamren Robinson is receiving renewed major attention from the Seminoles of Florida State University.

Robinson, now a top four-star linebacker, had previously made a verbal commitment to UVA in July 2022.

Since that time, Robinson has been upgraded in the college recruiting rankings. He is now rated the No. 25th linebacker in the nation and the No. 6 overall recruit in the state of Virginia.

Robinson just went down to Tallahassee, Florida a few days after the State Semis battle at Riverheads for an "official visit" at FSU.

Whatever the young man eventually decides, I certainly wish him the best of luck on his extremely exciting endeavor into the BIG time!

He also has visited South Carolina since then. From what I've heard, he plans to sign on the 21st with either UVA, FSU or SC

Awesome.

Interesting - South Carolina Head Coach, Shane Beamer, is well aware of the talent that Essex and the Northern Neck-Middle Peninsula of Virginia produces (an insane amount for such a small, rural area.)

I remember meeting Coach Beamer once or twice at Essex High with Coach Fulks back in the day. Beamer was working for his Dad during those days at Virginia Tech.

Beamer was at Essex to mainly talk about Essex great Sterling Hammond at the time. It must have been around 2013 or so. IMO, Hammond is one of the best overall Essex football players of all time. Dang, he hit like a truck and tank combined, many said.

By the way, Coach Beamer looks to me to be rocking it at South Carolina in just like two years. I think that the Gamecocks also just recently knocked off their big dog in-state rivals, Clemson....not bad at all.

Tough but great choices for Robinson...

1A has produced some amazing talent over the years, Thornhill is the latest that comes to my mind, you had the Jones brothers from Powell Valley. A lot of 1A talent doesnt get a look because theyre 1A. I know Robinson will do great things wherever he decides.

Heath Miller is another one that went from Honaker to the NFL. Ironically he was the Honaker qb and played against King William in the 2000 state tournament

Plus, (recently) Galax had the Peoples player (VT) and the Caleb Spurlin awesome kid (App State).

Of course, Northumberland High School has current senior Cameron Seldon going to the SEC's University of Tennessee - Cam and NHS Coach Lewis got to hang out with the one and only Peyton Manning the night of the massive upset over Alabama this past season. Crazy.

Virginia Class 1 is on a roll indeed.

Of course, didn't Riverheads have a lineman (Herndon) that recently played for Pitt?

He also won some ACC honors if remember correctly.

In addition, back locally in the NNK area, you got Demond Claiborne (from 2A KW) currently playing for Wake Forest. He lived near Essex County (I think).

Plus, you got the big man, Taishan Holmes, also from Tappahannock (Essex) currently playing DL for Northwestern University.

Another Tappahannock-Essex product, Saardar Calhoun, recently transferred from Florida State University to Texas Tech. Saardar plays basketball for the Red Raiders who are like 7-2 this season.

Speaking of the Raiders, as in the NND's Rappahannock Raiders, (Warsaw) product, Meredith Slaw, has blasted a s--t load of home runs and grand slams for Virginia Tech softball. Slaw helped power the Hokies to win the ACC Championship in 2022.

ACC, SEC, Big Ten, Big 12....pretty darn wild.

Herndon had a rather quiet career at Pitt that did not garner much publicity, but by his senior year he was the starting center I believe. But the real story behind him was the fact that he was such a wonderful kid who had suffered through family tragedy, which resulted in Coach Casto taking a special interest in him. The coach and his wife traveled to Pitt and served as his escorts on Senior Day.

Yep Mike Herndon, I actually forgot about him. He actually got invited to Saints training camp too but didnt make the team.

Sardaar Calhoun is now playing at Drake University.
For some reason, I thought that Calhoun had gone to Texas Tech.

As a younger kid, Sardaar attended a small Christian school in Tappahannock that I sent my own kids to for a few years.

Good luck to him at Drake!

He did go there briefly last season, but hardly played and entered the transfer portal in the middle of the season

Kamren Robinson is the nephew of Sterling Hammond. Both played the same positions for Essex on both sides of the ball. After his award winning years at Virginia Union University, Sterling was among a group of players picked to attend a NFL combine for HBCU players. Before the combine could take place, Covid hit and shut everything down.

Let's not forget TT Carey from Colonial Beach. I believe he's in the G league
TT was a beat on the court. If I'm not mistaken he was all state in basketball, football and baseball. I know he was state POY in basketball the year CB won state title.

The Hammonds are one heck of an athletic family!

Shoot, we also have some other recent really big stars from the Neck -

The Northern Neck's Westmoreland County products Justin Anderson (UVA, NBA) and Torrey Smith (University of Maryland, NFL).

Anderson is from little Montross and Smith is from the even smaller town of Colonial Beach. Smith won two Super Bowls with the Ravens and Eagles. He retired fairly recently.

Both men greatly give back to their communities.

Never forget where you come from...

Back in the mid 90s, Rappahannock (Warsaw) had 6'11 Cal Bowdler. Back then it was unheard of to see a guy his height playing in this area. He had a good 4 year career at ODU and was a 1st round pick of the Hawks(16th or 17th overall) and played 3 years in the NBA before playing overseas.

Fantastic! Congrats to Pope! Westmoreland has had a lot of soccer talent the last couple decades.

Speaking of soccer, that World Cup Final that just finished between Argentina v France was totally insane! What a freaking classic! A true Epic.

So glad for Messi! What a way to go out for the GOAT.

Plus, for some reason, I just do not like those wussy Frenchies...(or whoever).

One of the best I have seen! Argentina’s goalie in both PK shoot outs was unreal! I’m sure his Golden glove trophy acceptance post walk will cost him some money ha ha
