FINAL: Graham 45 Virginia High 7 (Thur Oct 12)

Who did graham lose to ? Union ?

Graham fumbled the ball on Bluefield's 1 yard line with 30 seconds or so left to play and lost 17-14 in the first game of the year. Bluefield has stayed undefeated and is ranked #1 in West Virginia

I think all the regions are about equal, with Region D being extremely deep. Most regions have 1-2 title contenders and 4-5 good teams. Region D has Graham and Union (The GMen can play with anyone. As a Union fan that matchup scares me because of Graham's speed. Union is stronger at the LOS and could gain yards but hard to break big plays when so many guys can chase you down. Union has speed don't get me wrong, everyone knows Mitchell but #20 Jenkins can FLY, as can #17 Owens when healthy but strength is Unions strength lol) and some good teams like Marion, Ridgeview and VHS. Region C has Appo and Glenvar, etc...

19gh i went up to graham and saw them play richlands last year and they were surpose to be all that with speed , if they are like that at all then your vision of speed is not even close !! Appo maybe faster than the two previous season and we know how those turned out!! Po1 A chip on your shoulder does know good, and the raiders we'll get phsycal with anyone ! Hope we get to see that if y'all dont fold up like usual!!
Stabler, I respect your opinion. I got to watch Graham all season last year. You didn't see Graham's speed last year because Richlands manhandled them on the line of scrimmage and got to their playmakers at the point of attack. Graham's lineplay and defense are much improved this season. That's what I think is the main difference this year. Their linemen are holding their blocks longer and the QB has more time to make plays. The defense is overall stronger and faster than last season. A year can make a big difference for kids. I'm not proclaiming they are great or anything. But I think they are a legitimate contender this year.

19gh had a awesome time there last season at Mitchell stadium watching the game glad to hear that graham is stronger this year and they are having a great season so far , hopefully will get to see them play at some point this year also ,good luck on the rest of season and playoffs !!

Thanks. I think it's a two horse race in Region D between Graham and Union and I would give the edge to Graham because of the overall athleticism.

I think home field could be gigantic. If Union has to play in Bluefield, I clearly favor G-Men. If it's in BSG where Union hasn't lost in like five years, it's much closer and I'd side w Bears in a tight game. Graham has more team speed and athleticism, Union is better at the LOS.

What did you think about watching a game at Mitchell Stadium? Does Appomattox or any central VA teams play in a stadium that compares to it?

Too bad that game wasn't played this year. They've done some touch ups this year and put down new field turf and new fence around the field. It looks so much better now.

Eh31 , it was awesome , not a bad seat in the stadium , fans were great on both sides , that was my second time there the first time was in like 1992 when rustburg came there and played graham on a snow packed down field, as far as a stadium around it would be LU where Appo played LCA this year and city stadium in Lynchburg that has been redone and is great !! But a very cool place there !!

Glad you enjoyed the trip to Bluefield!

It should be nice since Graham is paying $50k/game there lololol

(Joke, someone somewhere else actually thought the county was paying $250k/year to play there)

Is Union High in Appalachia or Big Stone Gap? Do they play at a new field after consolidation? Is it big like the stadium in Bluefield? Is Union Highs building new, or used from one of the other schools. I visited Tazewell County and Buchanan County in 86 in same year. Grundy for a wrestling match and it looked like there were no bleachers on visiting side. No game that day, just got to see it. Tazewell, I watched beat Nottoway. That stadium looked like an awesome home side, but the away side was like little league bleachers and small and dangerous. For these teams like Grundy.and Tazewell High, do they still play there?

you have Appo, then everybody else. Graham doesn't see that kind of speed in SW Va. Appo would win easily, & it wouldn't be pretty.

Watched them on internet. They have more team speed than Appo in my opinion. I think Appo is better though..Bluefield High, WV is one of the better AA team's.in the state, and they are equally as fast or faster than Appo.

I agree that.in AA, you still have Appo and everybody else.just like you do in Class A with Riverheads. But, their region has Giles and Glenvar. Shoot, much of the previous state champions are teams in Region C. I think Appo beats Graham, but if you mean pretty as in a blow out, I just don't see that. Graham would play with them and lose in my opinion, but a 14-17 pt difference, unlike a 28-35 pt difference on the next closest team last year.

Tazewell has a nice setting to watch a game with the sun setting over the cow fields out of the west end of the stadium. They upgraded their stadium with multi million dollar two story field house that over looks the field from the east end. The home bleachers make for a great place to see a game. The away metal bleachers are built on the hill over the road and still look very unsafe. It's a shame because if they put some money into those bleachers they would have one of the better stadiums in SWVA

Union is in Big Stone, and the Bears still play their home games at Bullitt Park, the town of BSG park. It's not a big stadium but usually has adequate seating. Not comfortable, those metal bleachers can be hard on your butt haha but there's a good number of seats for the visitors and a bigger, concrete bleacher on the home side. It's not as nice as Mitchell in Bluefield, but it's not ran down anywhere except the bathrooms. A grass field but it's kept neat, never looks bad. The parking sucks, youll likely have to park and walk for a big game there but there's a lot of room inside the fence.
