Tazewell 60 Giles 33 (Thursday)

TAZEWELL, Va. — The last time a Giles High School football team played against Tazewell, a school record was set.

This time, a lot more of them were.

Four school passing records bit the dust at Wittten Field-Bulldogs Stadium on Thursday night as the Bulldogs ran off with a 60-33 victory over the visting Spartans.

Starting quarterback Carter Creasy completed 21-of-33 passing attempts for 432 yards and seven touchdowns — the school single-game passing touchdown record. Backup quarterback Walker Patterson passed for 70 yards and an additional score. The combined yardage (502 yards) amounted to the most team passing yards in a single game for the Bulldogs.

The eight total passing TDs were also a single game record. Logan McDonald led all receivers with eight catches for 173 yards and three touchdown catches. That put McDonald over the top to take the school record for most touchdown catches in a season (12).

In 2012, the last season Giles and Tazewell met on a football field, current assistant coach Jaylen Jordan caught a then-school record five passes for 278 yards.

The Bulldogs lost that game 50-30.

In addition to McDonald, Green jerseys on the radar Friday night included Mit Patel (2-72, TD), Brody Patterson (2-65, TD), Walker Patterson (2-64, TD), Reece Mullins (2-52, TD) and Tyler Gillespie (2-42, TD).

The Spartans were led by running back Jackson Parcell, who rushed for 164 yards on 30 carries, includin two touchdowns. Khalik Sauders ruhed for 115 yards on 24 carries, including a touchdown.

Antonio Wilcoxson rushed for 76 yards on six carries for Giles (2-6) while Jaylan Baylor (2-35 yards, TD) and Jaden Estes (1-39, TD) contributed to the visitors’ scoring.

Giles (2-6) will travel to Bluefield on Thursday next week. Tazewell (6-2) will travel to Graham on Friday.
