The annual Rappahannock Times high school football preview hit newsstands today. As always, Chris Rose did an excellent job of previewing all of the area teams. Definitely worth the $1 to grab a copy.

I'm not sure if they go that far out or not. You can also get a subscription online for .99 the first month and then $4 a month after that. They do an excellent job of covering all high school sports in the area. They sell that in Bowling Green area? Trying to think if I’m heading out further toward the Neck anytime soon. Would like to read it.
Do they sell it in Richmond county area ?The annual Rappahannock Times high school football preview hit newsstands today. As always, Chris Rose did an excellent job of previewing all of the area teams. Definitely worth the $1 to grab a copy.
I'm pretty sure they do. I'm not sure of exactly what stores thoughDo they sell it in Richmond county area ?
The Rappahannock Times is sold in most convenient stores in the counties that surround Essex/King & Queen.Do they sell it in Richmond county area ?
I remember as a kid, before I was even in high school, I couldn't wait to get the Saturday morning paper to read about all of the games on Friday night in depth. They also did a player of the week and stats section on Tuesday and write ups of all the big games on Fridays. You find nothing like that in the Richmond Times Dispatch anymore. The two best papers in the state for high school sports that I've personally found are the Roanoke Times and my personal favorite, the Bristol Herald CourierThe Rappahannock Times is sold in most convenient stores in the counties that surround Essex/King & Queen.
Also, all the local Food Lion grocery stores usually have it - I know that Food Lion in Tappahannock, Warsaw & Heathsville sell the Rappahannock Times.
I get mine in the mail. However, for local sports fans, as kwhs95fan mentioned, they now have an online option that is a great value.
Yes, as always, Chris Rose did an excellent job. We are blessed indeed to have so much fine sports & local news coverage.
As someone who reads a lot, I can assure you that most small town and many large city papers do not do a good job of covering local sports news anymore.
Yeah they did. Now it's hardly nothing. The RTD did cover KW last year some in the playoffs and when they won the state championship, plus Demond Claiborne was the RTD player of the year, but high school coverage in general in the Richmond area isn't like it used to be. Some of us old schoolers still like to read an actual paper. LolYes, the western half of the state seems to do an excellent job of covering football and many of the high school sports.
You can tell that even by looking here on Va Preps. All the preview articles and news videos posted are about schools out mid-west or far-west for us eastern Virginians.
Good for them. Keep up the great work. I love how many of those sports folks out there remain old school.
I remember reading the Richmond area high school sports news (including many of the Tidewater & Neck schools) in the R-TD. They often had nice little articles (not just the score) on many of the games - back in the day.
I wonder whyI saw last week that the RTD announced it will no longer publish scoring summaries.
In Richmond, CBS 6 is the only news station who even has full time sports anchors. However, they have two who do an excellent job of covering high school sports, even covering King William and King and Queen on a regular basis, as well as other local teams periodicallyLooks like its a sign of the times unfortunately. I'm guessing that don't want to staff their night-time desk although it seems to me that stuff can be emailed although someone would need to typeset it. Oh well.
They did. It used to be a big deal out here when Chip Tarkenton and channel 8 flew in. They usually came to 1 or 2 KW games a year. I remember always rushing home to catch the high school sports report at 11:15 and you're right, they did devote about 20 minutes. They still do a show on Friday nights, but it's nowhere near as good as it once was. Channel 6 has supplanted them nowI do recall Channel 8 used to send helicopters to about 10 games and then have 3 or 4 clips from those contests on the news. i believe they devoted 20 minutes of their Friday night 11 pm newscast to high school football.
The print version comes out on Tuesday. Seems like they would have time. And they could still post results on their website and social media.Looks like its a sign of the times unfortunately.
