Former Varina Coach Chilcoat is facing a battle having been diagnosed with a malignant inoperable brain tumor. I had the luxury of getting to know Coach Chilcoat in the early 2000's as a diehard fan of Varina and former grad. I was critical of his coaching as fans often do and he invited me one afternoon to come by, we talked, got to know one another.and from that day on I had more respect not just for him but the job coaches do.
Coach Chilcoat was at Oscar Smith long before he came to Varina in the early 90's, since he stepped down as head coach at Varina he has had stops at programs like Henrico, Highland Springs and most recently Mills Godwin.
